Art is my biggest inspiration. I take abstract paintings and turn them into unique prints, then work with my karigars to add hand-placed Zari or Kantha embroidery. Everything here is about making traditional craft feel effortless and wearable.

This is a closer look at the festive collection, where tradition meets modern flair. The intricate gold hand embroidery on this pink silk shirt makes it truly special.

Here you can see the artistry that goes into our pieces. This video shows the intricate hand embroidery on the collar and sleeves, transforming this kurta into a masterpiece.

Our Bandhini shirts blend centuries-old tie-dye artistry with my signature contemporary cuts. Each piece is hand-tied and dyed, making it truly one of a kind.

Festivities call for fabrics that shine. This mood board shows the sustainable luxury brocade and ethically woven fabrics from Indian artisans that I use in my collections.

These are woven stories and timeless weaves. This image collage highlights our conscious and timeless fabrics that tell a story of heritage and sustainability.

This video gives you a peek behind the scenes at the backbone of Wasabi. The beauty of our collection starts here, in the hands of local artisans who pour their soul into every stitch.

This oversized Thread Shirt co-ord set is crafted from pure crepe and has a fine touch of hand embroidery on the collars and front placket. It’s a must-have for every wardrobe.

About The Art of Craft: Prints & Embroidery

When you look closely at these pieces, notice the hand-placed Zari and Kantha work on the collars and sleeves. I do not just use these techniques for decoration; they add weight and texture that machine embroidery simply cannot replicate, ensuring your festive wear looks rich but feels as soft as a regular shirt.

From Painting to Print

My design process usually starts with a mood or a painting. I find an abstract image that speaks to me, and we create a screen to turn it into a print for our co-ord sets or kaftans. This means you are wearing art that you won't find anywhere else.

The Human Touch

The heart of Wasabi is the collaboration with my karigars. Whether it is the fine French knots on a crepe shirt or the heavy Banarasi brocade we use for our skirts, these are not factory-made items.

  • Kantha & Zari: We place these by hand, which gives the garment a specific drape and a quality feel that lasts through many washes.
  • Sustainable Fabrics: We prioritize breathable silks and pure cotton-crepe blends. My goal is to make sure that even when you are fully dressed for a sangeet or Diwali, you are not weighed down.
  • The Details: Look for the little things. I insist on deep, functional pockets in almost every piece. Why should festive clothes be less practical than your daily wear?

Because I work directly with the artisans, every item can be tweaked. If you need a different length for your kurta or want to adjust the neckline, just ask. This is fashion that adapts to you, not the other way around.

Wasabi

Store at Grand View High Street, Sector 58, GurugramStarts from 4,500 per piece

I am Shilpa, and I started Wasabi because I was tired of clothes that forced us to squeeze into stiff, uncomfortable shapes. I work closely with our karigars to keep heritage techniques like Banarasi weaving and hand-block printing alive, making sure everything we create is as easy to move in as it is beautiful to look at.
