About Behind the Scenes: My Process
Creating a bridal look that survives Mumbai humidity and heavy jewelry isn't just about the final styling. I focus on building a secure structural base—using specific crimping techniques, root-lifting, and hidden pinning—before we even touch the accessories. When you see a perfect floral bun or a voluminous wave, it is the result of hours of preparation, layering, and humidity-proofing so you can be completely worry-free on your big day.
My work is grounded in technical preparation. Indian bridal hair faces unique challenges, from the sheer weight of heavy matha pattis and dupattas to the heat and humidity of a long wedding day. My process starts with a solid foundation. This often involves crimping the base hair to create volume and grip, which ensures that pins, heavy jewelry, and floral arrangements stay firmly in place rather than sliding down after an hour of dancing.
The Technical Details
- Jewelry Setting: I use invisible threading techniques to secure maang tikkas, passas, and jada billas. This keeps the jewelry looking clean and sharp without the visible clutter of bulky pins.
- Humidity Control: I rely on professional-grade setting sprays and anti-frizz products to lock in the style, particularly for open waves and voluminous curls that are prone to dropping in Mumbai's climate.
- Structural Buns: Whether it's a traditional Maharashtrian Peshwai or a sleek North Indian floral bun, I use high-quality padding and stuffing to create the desired shape, ensuring the style remains elegant from every angle.
Collaboration
Hairstyling is only half the equation. I coordinate closely with your makeup artist and the bridal team to ensure the hair placement complements the contouring and the draping of the dupatta. This process is about seamless integration. If we are using extensions for added drama, I ensure they are blended so naturally that they are undetectable. We are not just fixing hair; we are building a look that is meant to last.
