FPV Drone Filming: Behind The Scenes of Professional Aerial Shots
Getting the perfect shot isn't just about hitting the throttle. It is about building custom rigs, scouting locations, and planning every turn. Here is how we make the magic happen.
This is one of my custom heavy-lift drones, built to carry professional cinema cameras like the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. When a project demands the highest image quality, I have the gear and the skills to make it fly, ensuring broadcast-ready FPV footage.
This is me in my element, flying my FPV drone against a dramatic sky in Leh. Every flight is a new adventure, whether it's in the mountains, on a film set, or over a massive concert. This is what I live for.
On location scouting and getting ready for a flight. I'm always exploring new places to find the perfect shot, carrying all my gear with me. This was taken at the historic Kangra Fort, a location that offers incredible cinematic potential.
About Behind The Scenes
People see the final high-speed chase footage, but they rarely see the hours spent in the workshop soldering custom cinelifters or scouting locations like Kangra Fort. Whether I am tuning a 3-inch cinewhoop for an indoor one-take or rigging an X8 octocopter to carry a Blackmagic Cinema camera, the process is pure jugaad and precision. If you have a wild shot in mind, we can build a rig specifically to make it fly.
The Science Behind The Shot
Most people think FPV is just about hitting the throttle. The truth is that it is 70 percent prep and 30 percent flying. When you hire me, you are not just getting a pilot. You are getting a builder who understands the physics of the frame.
Custom Rigs for Custom Demands
I do not rely on off-the-shelf solutions. If a director needs a specific camera movement for a music video or a high-speed chase for a commercial, I build a custom drone for it. Need to fly through a window and chase a drifting car at 100kmph? I have a 5-inch freestyle quad tuned for that. Need to carry a cinema camera without vibration? My X8 octocopter is prepped and ready.
Safety & The Law
Being DGCA certified is the baseline. On set, I operate with a dedicated spotter. We sync with the show director to avoid lasers, pyro, or obstacles. Whether we are shooting in the heat of Delhi or the snow of Zanskar, the gear is checked, tested, and backed up on-site. There is no guessing game when we are on location.
On Set
I treat every project like a crew member. I show up early, I do the recce, and I coordinate with the DOP. If there is a way to get the shot, I will find it. My gear box is always packed and ready for travel. Let’s make something crazy.
