Wildlife & Macro Photography: Beyond the Birds

My lens doesn't just chase birds. From tracking jungle cats to documenting the intricate world of insects, I capture the quiet, raw life of the forest.

A Jungle Cat peers through a field of mustard flowers. These elusive small cats are widespread in India but are difficult to spot and photograph.

A Malabar Giant Squirrel, one of the largest squirrel species in the world, looks directly at the camera from its perch in the forest canopy.

An Indian Hare, wet from the morning dew, pauses in a field of green. Capturing mammals requires a different approach, often involving long waits and careful stalking.

A non-venomous Indian Rat Snake being handled. Understanding and respecting all wildlife, including snakes, is crucial. This video shows a calm interaction.

A macro shot of a wasp on a leaf, revealing the intricate details of its wings and body. I enjoy the challenge of macro photography to show the beauty of smaller creatures.

A Plain Tiger butterfly shares a flower with a Red Cotton Bug. This image captures a small moment of interaction within a micro-ecosystem.

About Beyond the Birds

Capturing mammals and macro subjects requires a different level of patience compared to birding. I use long, quiet hours in the field and specialized macro gear to get up close without disturbing the natural behaviour of the animal. If you see me in the field, I am likely waiting for the light to hit just right on a subject that rarely stays still.

While my reputation is built on bird photography, the rest of the wild is equally compelling. This collection focuses on the challenge of smaller, faster, or more elusive subjects. Whether I am shooting a macro portrait of a wasp or tracking an Indian Hare, the technical requirements remain the same: careful planning, specific gear, and extreme patience.

For commercial assignments, I provide a mix of tight portraits and environmental habitat shots that show the animal in its true home. For mentorship, I teach the fieldcraft required to spot these animals. This includes understanding the terrain, recognizing patterns, and knowing when to hold your position.

I treat every shoot, whether for a private collection or a publication, with the same discipline. We start with a gear assessment and location plan, ensuring we are ready before the sun rises. My goal is to capture the image, not force it. If you are looking for authentic, publication-grade photography of Indian wildlife, or want to learn the techniques to capture these moments yourself, we can discuss a project.
