Custom Wooden Decks, Lawns, and Garden Pathways
I design functional outdoor spaces using treated wood, natural grass, and stone to turn your empty balcony or terrace into a usable part of your home.
Here you can see the detailed craftsmanship involved in building a custom wooden planter and deck for a high-rise terrace.
The finished wooden deck and integrated planter box, filled with a mix of flowering and foliage plants, creating a seamless look.
A beautiful, curved pathway made of wooden decking, flanked by raised planters, guides you through this lush ground-floor garden.
This space features a wooden deck under a pergola, with a climbing vine starting its journey up a tree trunk.
A creative and durable pathway made from irregular flagstones, with decorative pebbles filling the gaps in floral patterns.

About Wooden Decks, Lawns & Pathways
When choosing materials for Mumbai homes, we prioritize treated wood and high-density composites that can handle our heavy monsoon and humidity without warping. I always build a subtle slope into your wooden deck design to ensure water drainage, which prevents stagnant puddles from ruining your deck or your outdoor furniture over time.
Building a solid foundation for your garden is just as important as the plants you choose. Whether you have a compact apartment balcony or a sprawling terrace, the right hardscaping defines how you use that space.
Designing for Mumbai Conditions
My approach to hardscaping is driven by practicality. Mumbai weather is tough, so I don't use materials that require constant sealing or painting.
- Wooden Decks: I select seasoned wood or composite materials that resist termite attacks and don't heat up excessively in the sun. Every deck is installed with a framework that allows for airflow beneath the wood, preventing moisture buildup.
- Natural Grass Lawns: If you want a soft, green lawn, I ensure the surface has a proper waterproof base and an efficient drainage layer. This keeps the grass healthy and prevents water from seeping into your terrace slab.
- Stone Pathways: I often use irregular flagstones or pebbles for walkways. These provide a natural, non-slip surface. I prefer filling the gaps with smaller stones or ground cover plants instead of concrete, as this allows the ground to breathe and manages rainwater runoff effectively.
The Permaculture Approach
Even with decks and pathways, I apply Permaculture principles. We design these elements to direct foot traffic and water flow naturally. A well-placed path shouldn't just look good; it should guide you through the garden in a way that respects the planting zones, ensuring you don't step on your precious herbs or soft soil beds while maintaining your garden. If you are looking to combine hard structures with soft greenery, let's look at your site constraints and plan something that actually lasts.
