High-Quality Garden Materials & Plants in Mumbai
A thriving garden starts with the right foundation. Here is a look at the quality plants, pots, and sustainable materials I personally select for every project.
A selection of healthy ornamental grasses and shrubs at a nursery, waiting to be chosen for a new garden design.
Trays of lush green groundcover plants. I often use these for filling in gaps and creating a carpet of green.
Shelves filled with terracotta pots of all shapes and sizes. I believe the right pot is just as important as the plant itself.
A beautiful combination of flowering hydrangeas and colorful cordyline plants in modern oval planters on a client's balcony.
About Additional Work & Materials
I don't just buy plants off a shelf. Every specimen you see in my projects is hand-picked at the nursery based on your specific balcony conditions—light, wind, and space. Whether it’s choosing porous terracotta pots that allow roots to breathe or mixing a nutrient-dense soil base that holds moisture without rot, I focus on the 'hidden' details that ensure your garden survives Mumbai's heat and keeps growing, rather than just looking good for a week.
The Foundation of a Living Space
A beautiful garden is 20% what you see and 80% what happens underneath the soil.
Plant Selection & Acclimatisation When I visit nurseries, I’m not looking for the tallest plant. I’m looking for healthy roots, pest-free leaves, and plants that are ready to adapt. If you have a low-light corridor or a scorching west-facing terrace, I select plants specifically suited to those stress levels. This reduces plant shock and ensures the 'riot of colours' you want is actually sustainable.
Why the Pot Matters I am picky about vessels.
- Terracotta: My go-to for most outdoor plants. It breathes, preventing root rot and allowing for healthy gas exchange.
- FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic): For high-rises where weight is a concern, I use these premium, lightweight planters. They are durable, retain moisture better than plastic, and keep your balcony floor looking clean.
The Permaculture Soil Mix Standard nursery soil is often too heavy or too sandy. In my installations, I use a specific mix—adding coco peat for water retention and organic compost for longevity. This means you aren't just getting plants; you are getting a complete ecosystem designed to require less frequent watering.
If you want to know what exactly will thrive in your corner of Mumbai, let's talk about the specific conditions of your space.
