Eco-Friendly Ganpati Idol Making Workshops
Learn to sculpt your own Ganpati idol using traditional, eco-friendly Shadu Mati clay. Our guided workshops in Mumbai are perfect for all ages, from kids to seniors.
The final touches are what bring the idol to life. We teach students how to sculpt fine details, from the eyes to the ornaments, using simple tools and techniques on their Shadu Mati Ganpati.
Our workshops are a space for focus and devotion. We create a supportive environment where students of all ages, including young children, can immerse themselves in the process of making their own Ganpati.
"Make sure you merge your ears properly," I always say. In our workshops, we share practical tips learned over 13 years to ensure your eco-friendly idol is strong and beautifully formed.

About Eco-Friendly Ganpati Idol Making
We work exclusively with Shadu Mati, a natural, unbaked clay that is gentle on your hands and the environment. In every session, our focus is on teaching you how to 'merge' the clay properly—a crucial technique for structural strength that we emphasize in all our batches. Whether you are 4 or 70, we guide you through the process step-by-step so you walk out with a Bappa you sculpted yourself.
For over 13 years, we have brought families together to experience the meditative joy of sculpting. Making your own idol is not just a craft; it is a way to celebrate tradition with intention. Our workshops are designed to remove the 'self-doubt' that often stops people from picking up art.
Why Choose Our Workshops?
- Traditional Shadu Mati: We use pure, eco-friendly sedimentary clay. It is non-toxic, safe for children, and ensures your idol dissolves in water, honoring the environment.
- Step-by-Step Guidance: You do not need to be an artist to join. Our instructors demonstrate techniques in real-time, helping you handle the structure so your Bappa is sturdy and well-proportioned.
- Inclusive Environment: From our Dadar and Thane centers to community halls and schools, we create a space where everyone feels welcome. We often see grandparents and toddlers sitting at the same table, both finding joy in the mess.
- Material Support: We provide the clay, the base, and the essential tools. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm.
What to Expect
When you join our sessions, you aren't just making an idol. You are learning the basics of 3D sculpting: handling coil techniques, ensuring joints are secure, and adding those small, personal touches that give your Ganpati character. We keep our batches manageable to ensure we can provide personal feedback, walking around the room to help you fix a trunk or smooth out a surface.
We host these workshops across Mumbai, including Dadar, Ghatkopar, and Thane. If you cannot make it to our studio, we also offer online sessions where we can ship the clay directly to your doorstep.
Grahin Art Institute
We started Grahin in 2011 because we believe art belongs to everyone, not just the professionals. Our workshops are less about perfection and more about the joy of creating something with your own hands alongside a community that cheers for every brushstroke and clay coil.
