Salon life is intense, but your body shouldn't pay the price. I have spent 18 years behind the chair, and here is how I manage the physical toll of our craft.

As hairdressers, back pain is a real struggle. I'm sharing the 5 yoga asanas that personally helped me heal my back.

The Bridge Pose (Setu Bandha Sarvangasana). This is one of the key poses for strengthening the back and opening the chest after a long day of standing.

The Baby Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana). This is a gentle backbend that helps to relieve tension in the spine.

The Child's Pose (Balasana). This is a restorative pose that gently stretches the back and hips, perfect for a quick break between clients.

The Triangle Pose (Utthita Trikonasana). This pose is excellent for stretching the sides of the body and improving balance.

The Half Lord of The Fishes Pose (Ardha Matsyendrasana). This twisting pose is great for improving spinal mobility and relieving stiffness.

A simple message: Trust your hairstylist. We have spent years learning about hair, and that expertise is what you can rely on.

About this collection

Standing for hours behind the chair eventually impacts your spine. I share specific, actionable yoga stretches—like the Bridge and Child's Pose—that I use daily to counteract the stiffness and long-term strain that comes from constant leaning and standing.

Ergonomics is not just a concept; it is how you protect your career longevity. In my workshops, I do not just teach color formulas; I teach how to hold your scissors to avoid wrist strain and how to adjust your stool height to save your lower back.

Here, you will find specific breakdowns of poses like Bhujangasana (Baby Cobra) to open your chest and Ardha Matsyendrasana to improve spinal mobility. These are not abstract wellness tips. These are the exact movements that allowed me to maintain an 18-year career in Mumbai salons without chronic pain. We also discuss the balance between the daily chaos of the salon floor and maintaining the mental focus required to deliver high-quality work. My approach is simple: if you take care of your body, you can focus entirely on your art.
