We treat conservation as a dialogue between science and heritage. At our Lavelle Road studio, we use archival techniques to protect your artwork's history, ensuring every repair remains reversible and respectful to the original artist.

Our work is where science meets art. Conservation blends chemistry, physics, and art history with deep respect for the original work. Every decision is guided by research and a commitment to craftsmanship.

The principle of reversibility is a cornerstone of our ethical approach. Any conservation treatment we apply should be removable in the future without harming the original, a promise we make to every artwork.

We believe in preserving authenticity. Our goal is not to make an artwork look brand new, but to honor its journey by protecting every original brushstroke, every patina, and every mark of time.

Conservation matters because every artwork holds stories of the hands that made it and the journey it has traveled. Our work safeguards these stories, ensuring they live on for generations to come.

By conserving an artwork, we are preserving culture. Each piece is a cultural memory, and our role is to keep that heritage alive and protected for the future.

The art of conservation is where history meets skill, and preservation itself becomes an art form. We are the silent guardians behind every long-living masterpiece.

About The Art and Science of Conservation

We approach every restoration with a philosophy of minimal intervention. Before performing any work, we conduct a detailed condition report using UV fluorescence and raking light to identify structural issues, ensuring we never hide what makes a piece unique while securing its physical longevity.

Our Ethical Conservation Philosophy

Conservation is more than repairing damage; it is about extending the life of an artwork without erasing its history. Our core principle is reversibility. Every treatment we apply, from varnish removal to structural consolidation, uses conservation-grade materials that can be safely removed by future restorers. We do not aim to make an object look brand new but to stabilize it, honouring the patina and the journey it has already traveled.

Restoration Disciplines

Canvas & Oil Painting Restoration We manage everything from structural tear mending to the removal of oxidized, yellowed varnish. Our process includes thread-by-thread weaving for canvas stability and careful in-painting using pigments that remain distinct from the original artist’s work.

Paper & Photograph Conservation Paper is highly sensitive to environmental factors. We treat fungal foxing, water stains, and acidity using de-acidification techniques that halt deterioration without bleaching the paper. For tears, we utilize Japanese Washi tissue and wheat starch paste, which provide high-strength, invisible support.

Antique & Heritage Object Care Restoring objects requires a mix of chemical cleaning and structural engineering. We treat wood-boring insects, remove encrusted ritual oils or soot, and stabilize rotting materials with conservation resins. Whether it is a wooden sculpture or a heritage artifact, we ensure its physical integrity is reinforced.

The Assessment Process

Every project begins with a comprehensive physical and chemical examination. We document the artwork in a photographic log, noting the 'Before' and 'During' stages to maintain provenance. This data-backed approach allows us to provide accurate timelines and ethical guidance for every piece entrusted to our studio.
