Breed-Specific Dog Grooming Styles

Every breed has a unique personality, and their grooming needs are just as distinct. From maintaining the fluff of a Pomeranian to managing a Shih Tzu’s coat, I focus on styles that keep your baby comfortable, healthy, and happy.

Why shouldn't you shave a Golden Retriever? Their double coat protects them in both hot and cold weather. Shaving can damage the coat permanently and lead to sunburn. Regular de-shedding is the best approach.

It's crucial not to shave double-coated dogs like this Alaskan Malamute. Shaving can permanently damage their coat's texture and protective qualities. I always recommend a thorough de-shedding groom instead.

Leo the Maltese looking picture-perfect in his wicker chair. His haircut is neat, his white coat is bright, and the cute mint green bow completes his charming look.

Another shot of the handsome Leo. A well-executed Maltese cut keeps the hair around the eyes and mouth clean and tidy, which is essential for their health and comfort.

Chimpu the Maltese looking absolutely precious after her grooming. The round, fluffy face cut is a popular style for this breed.

About this collection

Getting a specific breed cut isn't just about making your dog look cute. It’s about knowing which coats need a scissor trim versus those that require strict de-shedding. For instance, I never shave double-coated breeds like Huskies or Goldens because it ruins their natural insulation. If you’re unsure what your pup needs, ask me—we’ll find a look that’s manageable for your lifestyle and gentle on their skin.

Styling That Prioritizes Health

When we talk about breed-specific grooming, many owners think it is purely about aesthetics. While a 'Teddy Bear' cut on a Shih Tzu or a neat trim for a Maltese looks adorable, the real goal is hygiene and maintenance. If the hair is kept too long without the right brushing at home, it gets matted, which is painful for the dog. My job is to find the balance between a style you love and a length that stays knot-free.

Why I Say No to Shaving

I get a lot of requests to shave double-coated dogs like Golden Retrievers, Huskies, and Malamutes during the Bangalore summer. Please, let’s not do that. These breeds have a coat that works like a natural thermostat, protecting them from both heat and sunburn. Shaving them doesn't just strip this protection; it can permanently damage the follicle, meaning the coat may never grow back the same way. Instead, I focus on thorough de-shedding and hygiene trims that get rid of the dead undercoat without exposing their skin to the elements.

Custom Cuts for Your Lifestyle

Every pet is different, and so is every pet parent’s schedule. If you want a low-maintenance look for your Maltese or a classic show-standard cut for your Poodle, I can do it. During our session, we will chat about how much time you have for at-home brushing. Based on that, I can suggest a cut that keeps your dog looking sharp and feeling fresh until their next visit to my HSR Layout or Sahakar Nagar salon. It is all about making the process stress-free for them, okay?
