About Traditional Chappra Entrances
I build these chappras using fresh bamboo, woven coconut leaves, and banana stems to create a sacred entry for your function. These structures are not just tents; they take 6 to 8 hours to assemble on-site to ensure they are stable and traditional. If you are planning an outdoor ceremony, keep in mind that while they provide excellent natural shade and an authentic atmosphere, they are not rain-proof unless we add a specific waterproof layer underneath.
Authentic Craftsmanship
When I build a chappra, my goal is to transform a simple doorway or open space into a traditional gateway. I use fresh, locally sourced coconut and palm leaves, which are hand-woven to create the structure. This is not factory-made work; it is manual, time-intensive, and deeply cultural.
Types of Chappra
I offer two main ways to approach your entrance:
- Home & Small Functions: These are typically 150 sq. ft. structures using bamboo frames. They are perfect for naming ceremonies, home poojas, or housewarming events. I can add simple floral torans to match your existing home decor.
- Temple & Grand Events: For festivals or large ceremonies, I construct 'Step Chappra' or tiered styles. These involve more complex framework and can reach 15-30ft, often decorated with gold-painted pillars and traditional symbols like the Om or Swastik.
Planning Your Setup
Because I use fresh leaves and organic materials, I need to know your requirements at least a few days in advance. My team usually arrives 6 to 8 hours before your event begins to complete the construction. We source the greens on the day of the event to ensure they stay vibrant for your guests. If you have a specific theme in mind—whether it’s a standard yellow-and-orange marigold look or something more elaborate—please let me know, and I will tailor the weave and floral placement accordingly.
