Traditional Chapra and Entrance Decor for Bengaluru Homes
I build authentic bamboo and palm leaf chapras that turn your entrance into an auspicious welcome for housewarmings, weddings, and festivals.

About this collection
Building a genuine chapra involves setting up a sturdy bamboo framework, weaving fresh coconut or palm leaves, and layering in banana stems with marigold garlands. Because this relies on organic materials that must look crisp and vibrant for the ceremony, I typically require 6 to 8 hours on-site to ensure the structure is stable and the weaving is tight before your guests arrive.
A proper traditional entrance sets the tone for your entire event. Whether you are hosting a Gruha Pravesha (housewarming), an engagement, or a temple festival, the chapra acts as the auspicious gateway for your family and guests.
How I construct these
I use a robust bamboo frame as the base, which is then wrapped and woven with green coconut leaves. For a 'Step Chapra' design, we create tiered levels in the roof to add architectural height, which works particularly well for larger home entrances. I finish the edges with thick garlands of fresh marigold, rose, and jasmine, adding banana plants on either side to maintain the traditional custom.
Practical details for planning
- Customization: You can choose between a flat, simple chapra for smaller spaces or a detailed 'Step Chapra' if you want a grander look for a bigger event.
- Materials: I source fresh palm leaves and banana stems specifically for your event date. These are natural materials, so they have a fresh, earthly scent that you simply do not get with synthetic decor.
- Timeline: For a standard 10x10ft structure, I require at least 6 to 8 hours of setup time. If you have a specific gate size or need to accommodate a pathway, tell me in advance so I can tailor the bamboo frame to fit perfectly.
If you have a traditional ceremony coming up in Bengaluru, let me know the measurements of your entrance so I can plan the structure accordingly.
