Behind the Decks: My Process for Mumbai Events
Music is about more than hitting play. It is about reading the room and finding that one track that changes the atmosphere. Here is a look at my workspace and the focus behind every set.
A 360-degree view from my console. This is my cockpit, where I control the energy of the entire room.
A quiet moment of focus at the decks, finding the next track to keep the energy flowing.
An artistic long-exposure shot capturing the motion and speed of mixing tracks. The lights and movement represent the flow of the music.
No script, just sound. A candid moment of me lost in the music, dancing along with the crowd.
A smile on my face as I line up the next beat. This is my happy place.
A shot from behind the console, showing my focus on the Pioneer DJ setup.
All smiles during a set at Ricky's Clubhouse. The energy from the crowd was amazing that night.
Caught in the moment, doing what I love. My hands are as much a part of the performance as the music.
Working the mixer, blending tracks seamlessly. It's a craft I'm passionate about perfecting.
A focused shot from my set at Toy Room. Every track selection is intentional, designed to build the night's journey.
About Behind the Decks
My setup is simple but effective. I use the industry-standard Pioneer CDJ 2000NXS2 or 3000 to keep transitions seamless. This equipment lets me mix Bollywood hits with Afro House or Techno on the fly. It is never pre-planned because I need to feel the crowd's energy before I decide the next song.
When I step behind the console, the goal is always to keep the floor moving. I do not believe in fixed playlists. Instead, I observe the crowd, watch who is dancing, and match the tempo to the room's energy. Whether it is a lounge set in Bandra or a peak-time club night, my approach remains the same. I mix high-BPM commercial tracks with my own edits and signature fusions, like Punjabi vocals over Afro House beats. This is why I arrive at least 30 minutes before any gig. I run a quick sound check to make sure the Pioneer mixer and the venue acoustics are dialed in. My goal is to make sure every transition feels natural, from the first low-energy lounge track to the final high-octane closing song.

I am Aayush. I believe the best nights are the ones you do not plan, where the music just flows! I spend my time behind the console in Mumbai, mixing genres until the dance floor feels like one heartbeat.
