Poetry Walks in Delhi: What Participants Say
A collection of reflections from fellow travelers who have joined our poetry walks to find a little space between thought and sound.
"I loved the inclusive and safe space created in the walk... The sensory exercises, the silence, the bonding, and the poetry itself all was just the best reset I could have asked for." - Seher, Scriptwriter.
"The walk unfolded like a poem, awakening our senses... Another aspect of the walk was forming and witnessing human connections with peers who shared their experiences with honesty and listened with empathy." - Chitra Kalyani, Founder, Sahaayta.
"It turned out to be 2.5 hours of sublime reflections, beautifully facilitated by Rachit... The quietude that beckons and eludes at the same time, finally seemed within reach." - Sonia, Artist.
"I have never experienced something like 'A lyrical walk' before... even though I am not into poetry the prompts gave me a window to truly reflect on my life and my surroundings. Grateful for it." - Vishal, Businessman.
"Hear me out: My experience with this walk started with skepticism and being unsure. But... the walk is designed to push you out of a comfort zone and pull you into another different kind of comfort zone." - Jiya Minocha, Designer and Copywriter.
"I felt that I could relish everything the forest had to offer... I was hyperaware of my queerness, alive and humming with birdsong, canopied and mysterious to me even." - Maniza Khalid, The Queer Muslim Project.
"I can warmly recommend this 'surprise' to anyone who is prepared to turn inwards for a few hours and stimulate the senses on the basis of poetry... The perfect breather in our otherwise fast-paced world." - Jennifer Stinglwagner, Voice coach and Therapist.
"I signed up for a Forest Healing Walk and had no idea what to expect. It turned out to be 2.5 hours of sublime reflections... prompted through thoughtfully selected poems." - Sonia, Artist.
"A Lyrical Walk experience with Rachit was a breaking down of binaries... Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a little space between thought and sound." - Manmeet Kaur, Founder, Khwaabghar.
"The poetic healing forest walk was a truly transformative experience. For the first time in a long time, I walked unhurriedly, savoring each step and taking in the beauty around me." - Anubha Verma, Editorial Consultant.
About Words from the Path: What People Say
Many who join us start with a touch of skepticism, feeling unsure about how poetry might fit into a forest walk. Time and again, I see that barrier dissolve within the first twenty minutes. We do not ask you to perform or analyze, we simply create a container where you can be quiet, listen to the trees and the verse, and let your own thoughts surface in the company of others.
People often ask if they need to be well-versed in literature to join these sessions. The honest answer is no. As these reflections show, the connection happens not through intellectual study, but through the sensory rhythm of walking and the cadence of words.
Why these walks resonate
Most of our participants describe the experience as a 'reset.' In a city as fast-paced as Delhi, we rarely get two hours to just exist.
- Breaking the Binary: We move between silence and sound, between the urban landscape and the forest floor. It is about softening the edges of our daily routines.
- No Performance Pressure: Whether we are using the words of Rabindranath Tagore, Mary Oliver, or Ruskin Bond, the poem is merely a tool. It is an invitation to look at a leaf, a person, or a memory differently.
- A Sense of Belonging: The most common feedback is the surprise at how quickly strangers become a community. When we strip away the need to 'do' something, we find we are much more open to listening.
Practical Expectations
Our walks are hosted in spaces like Sanjay Van and Lodhi Gardens. They are facilitated, but the output is entirely yours. You might leave with a draft of a poem, or you might leave with nothing more than a quiet mind. Both are successes. These sessions are intended for anyone—artists, students, professionals—looking to anchor themselves in the present.
Rachit Sharma
I’m Rachit, and I believe poetry is the most essential thing that happens to our culture. I started these walks to pull verse off the stage and plant it firmly into the wild, where we can feel it in our bones and catch our breath again.
