KPS School Architecture in Badami
A masterclass in transforming challenging, irregular triangular plots into vibrant, community-focused learning spaces inspired by local history.
This wide view shows the KPS School from the main road, illustrating how the building sits within its environment. The design strategically uses different materials and forms, like the pixelated graphic on the orange wall and the vertical fins, to create a visually engaging and modern educational facility.
The central courtyard is the heart of the KPS School. By placing the buildings along the site's edges, we carved out a generous and protected open area for play and interaction. This design choice directly supports the school's community-focused and student-centric activities.
Here you can see the main vehicle drop-off and parking area for the KPS School. The design ensures smooth traffic flow while showcasing key architectural elements, such as the bridge connecting two wings and the distinctive circular window, which acts as a focal point for the facade.

About KPS School, Badami: Context-Inspired Design
Designing for an irregular triangular site presented a unique challenge. Instead of fighting the geometry, we organized the classroom wings along the three edges of the plot. This strategy carved out a generous, secure central playground, ensuring the building layout directly fosters student interaction while maximizing every square foot of buildable area.
When we take on institutional architecture, our philosophy is to let the site dictate the logic. At the KPS School in Badami, the goal was to create a space that feels part of the local landscape while meeting the functional demands of a modern campus.
Context as a Design Tool We drew inspiration from the historic Badami caves, incorporating earthy red textures and circular motifs into the facade design. This is our approach to Indian Modern architecture: moving away from generic glass boxes to structures that feel rooted in the history of the location.
Efficiency through Master Planning Our design process began with rigorous site zoning. By pushing the building massing to the edges of the triangular site, we achieved two things:
- A protected, central courtyard that serves as the core of the school for play and assembly.
- A distinct hierarchy of spaces that separates admin blocks from student zones.
From Concept to Execution Beyond aesthetics, we focus heavily on the technical backbone of our projects. This includes:
- Massing Models: Volumetric studies to ensure the building scale is appropriate for students.
- Site Analysis: Studying wind and sun paths to orient classrooms for natural ventilation and daylighting.
- Execution Documentation: We provide comprehensive GFC drawings to ensure the design intent remains consistent during construction.
Whether it is parking strategy, core optimization, or facade detailing, we manage the architectural lifecycle to ensure the space serves the community long after the handover.
