Behind the Studio: My Creative Process
I don't believe in pre-made setlists or cookie-cutter production. Here is how I build my sound from scratch, from studio sessions to the gear I trust.
A snippet from an interview where I talk about my process. I do both, produce my own original music and remix existing tracks, constantly evolving my sound whether I'm in the studio, on stage, or mentoring.
Upgrading the studio with a new Arturia MiniFuse 4 audio interface. I believe in investing in the right tools to ensure the highest quality production for all my projects.
Behind the scenes at a studio session with the 'wonder women' I collaborated with for a birthday treat release. The energy in the studio is always electric.
A shot from one of my longest recording sessions for a new mix featuring Hebzy. The hard work and long hours are always worth it when the track comes together.
A glimpse into a studio session for a new mix. This is where the magic happens, collaborating with vocalists and sound engineers to perfect every detail of a track.
A quick selfie teasing a new collaboration. I'm always excited to get into the studio with other artists and see what we can create together.
About this collection
My creative process isn't just about software, it’s about the signal chain and the collaboration. When I'm in the studio, whether I'm setting up a new interface like the Arturia MiniFuse 4 or working with a vocalist for a 6-hour mixdown, I don't use templates. Every vocal stem gets manual pitch correction and unique EQ shaping because I believe in crafting a sound that hits you differently every single time.
Building a sound that cuts through requires more than just a laptop and a plugin. It demands a specific headspace. For me, that usually means late nights in Mumbai studios, iterating on tracks until the energy feels raw and honest.
The Workflow
I don’t work on fixed timelines or preset loops. Whether it's a 'Club Banger' remix or a 'Signature Reprise', the process starts with reading the vibe. For reprise tracks, I strip the song to its skeleton, re-harmonize chords, and layer in live instruments—like guitar or keys—to shift the mood entirely.
The Collaboration
I thrive on bringing different voices into the mix. My label, Bombae Records, is a playground for experimental collaboration. When I bring in a vocalist or rapper, we aren't just recording; we are pushing limits. I push my collaborators hard—Aazmaaye gaye ho toh, navaazey bhi jaoge—because that friction is where the real music lives.
Gear and Technique
You will see me sharing gear updates, not for the flex, but because the right tools define the sound. Whether I’m upgrading my interface for cleaner signal conversion or fine-tuning my master chain for streaming platforms like Spotify, every technical choice serves the final emotion. If it doesn’t add value to the listener's experience, it gets cut. I treat every project with the same accountability, keeping the quality high and the process transparent. Janhit mai jaari.
Sheryl
I’m DJ Sheryl, and I live for the studio madness. I don't believe in filters or shortcuts—just raw sound, high-energy collaboration, and pushing the boundaries of what a mix can be.
