Our Hands-On Approach to Dance Technique
Real growth happens in the details. I don't just teach steps; I build your foundation from scratch with personal corrections to ensure your alignment is spot-on and your body stays safe.
"Flex. Flex. How do you flex? This way." It's these small details that make all the difference. I'm providing a hands on correction to ensure this young dancer's foot is properly engaged for injury prevention and muscle development.
Giving attention to every detail is key. Here, I'm helping a student deepen her stretch safely using a resistance band, ensuring her back is straight and her knees are pressed down. Proper form is non negotiable.
A gentle hand and a word of encouragement can make all the difference. I'm helping this little one ease into her split, making sure she feels supported and confident as she explores her flexibility.
An instructor provides support as a student works on her standing split. This kind of personal attention ensures the hips stay square and the leg extends from the correct muscles, building strength and balance.
Guiding a student through a lunge and backbend, I focus on opening up her chest and shoulders while protecting her lower back. This hands on guidance is crucial for mastering advanced flexibility poses safely.
Here, I'm pointing out the correct alignment for a side lunge stretch. It's important that the knee stays over the ankle and the hips sink low to get the full benefit of the stretch without risking injury.
Assisting a student in a seated forward fold, I help her lengthen her spine and reach from the hips, not just her shoulders. This teaches the body the correct pattern for deep hamstring stretches.
In this group setting, I'm still able to give individual corrections. I'm adjusting this student's foot alignment in a forward bend, a small tweak that ensures the stretch is targeting the right muscles.
This student is learning a standing forward bend. My guidance on her back helps her understand how to hinge from the hips and maintain a long spine, which is essential for both flexibility and dance technique.
Using a resistance band for a squat stretch, this student gets my support to keep her posture upright and her form correct. This builds strength in her legs and core simultaneously.
About Our Hands-On Approach: Technique First
You’ll notice me physically correcting postures in these photos—whether it’s guiding a hip, aligning a foot, or pressing a knee. I don't just watch from the front; I'm in the mix because feeling the correct alignment is 90% of the battle. If you're tired of classes where you just copy moves without knowing why your body feels stiff or unstable, you’re in the right place.
At my studio in Paschim Vihar, we prioritize the base—the structural integrity of your body—over just learning choreography. Many students come to me frustrated with plateaus, unable to deepen their splits or improve their balance. Usually, the issue is that nobody has taught them how to engage their core or align their hips correctly.
Why Technique Matters
Whether you are training for Kathak, Contemporary, or just general mobility, the physics of your body doesn't change. I focus heavily on:
- Joint Protection: My hands-on corrections ensure you aren't putting unnecessary stress on your knees or lower back.
- Core Engagement: We use props like resistance bands and yoga blocks to help you feel the correct muscles activating.
- Safe Progression: We move from drills to advanced poses only when your form is solid. Samajh gaye? (Got it?)
What You Can Expect
My batches are intentionally small (8-12 students). This isn't just for atmosphere; it’s so I can personally spot everyone. You won't be lost in a crowd. We work on everything from simple foot placement to complex PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) stretching. I’m the teacher who will hold your leg to show you exactly where it needs to be, because telling you to 'just stretch' doesn't work. We work, we sweat, and we build your foundation so you can dance with confidence.
Dance With Agmi
I am Divyajot, and I’m just a proud mushy mess when my students nail a move they once thought was impossible. I’m the teacher who will call out 'squeeze your bum' mid-class, because I’d rather you get it right and safe than just get it done. My studio is my family adda, and if you’re looking for someone to actually correct your form rather than just count beats, you’re home.
