The Daily Dump Vision: Why We Compost

Composting isn't just about managing waste. It’s an act of respect for our soil. Here is why our founder Poonam Bir Kasturi made it her life's work to bring the 'Khamba' into every Indian home.

This is our story. Our founder, an industrial designer, wanted to use design to solve large problems. She created a composter that was easy to use, looked good in a balcony, and didn't stink, empowering over 90,000 families to keep waste out of landfills.

We will carry her legacy forward. This is a tribute to our founder, Poonam, and her dream that every home should have a composter. Her vision continues to be our guiding light.

"Having too much compost is a good problem to have." Our founder always had a way of reframing the conversation, turning perceived problems into opportunities for creating a richer, healthier earth.

The fire at the Brahmapuram waste plant in Kochi is a harsh reminder of the dangers of landfills. This is why our mission is so urgent. We must segregate and compost our waste at the source to prevent such disasters.

This is not a joke. Our cities are sending so much waste to landfills that soon, the landfills will be taking over our cities. We have to change our habits now.

India will require 88 sq km of land for landfills by 2050 if we don't act now. We can avoid turning our country into a trash-land by segregating, recycling, and composting.

We believe our composters can turn India from a country struggling with waste to a nation of clean, green streets. The power to make this change lies in our daily habits.

About this collection

Poonam always said that if every home has a fridge and a washing machine, it should have a composter too. She didn't just design a product; she designed a shift in how we see our trash. When you join the Daily Dump community, you aren't just getting a piece of hardware for your balcony—you're becoming part of a 17-year-old movement to turn our kitchen waste into 'black gold' right at home.

In 2006, when our founder, Poonam Bir Kasturi, looked at the rising waste in our cities, she didn't see a hopeless problem. She saw a design challenge. She believed that 'kachra' wasn't garbage—it was a resource we were simply misplacing. The Khamba wasn't just a container; it was a tool designed to fit perfectly into urban balconies, turning the messy process of decomposition into a clean, odorless, and actually rewarding experience.

We aren't here to just sell products. We are here to change the habit of discarding. Every time a landfill catches fire, like the one at Brahmapuram, it’s a harsh reminder that 'away' doesn't exist. Our mission is to make composting as standard as owning a washing machine.

Why this matters to us:

  • The Soil Connection: Your kitchen waste is 'black gold' that can rejuvenate the soil, not rot in a landfill and produce harmful methane.
  • Design for Reality: Our products are made for Indian homes, Indian food habits, and Indian weather. We don't believe in one-size-fits-all.
  • Community First: Whether it’s a single apartment or a large gated society, we provide the training to make sure the system actually works for you and your housekeeping staff, rather than just sitting in a corner.

When you bring a Daily Dump unit home, you are saying yes to being part of the solution. You are choosing to handle your waste responsibly instead of adding to the city's burden. Let's make every home a hub for soil health.
