I believe stories are the best way to connect children to their roots. In my sessions, we bring ancient tales to life through puppetry, interactive storytelling, and art, making culture a joyful, living experience.

Role-play is a powerful tool for learning. Here, the children are dressed as characters from a mythological story we discussed, helping them connect with the narrative on a deeper level.

A glimpse into our mythology session, with a beautiful setup of dolls and props to help tell the stories. The kids were completely captivated.

This collage shows the different parts of our mythology workshop: role-play, a Swastik craft activity, and a group photo of all our little actors.

Our Janmashtami celebration was full of activities. We made 'Maakhan Plate' and 'Jharoka' crafts, followed by a session of storytelling, bhajans, and kirtans.

Story time during our mythology workshop. I use pictures and animated storytelling to explain the tales of our gods and goddesses, like the story of Shivratri.

The children listen with rapt attention as I share stories from Indian mythology. Creating a calm, focused environment is key for them to absorb the tales.

A student takes the lead, using a puppet to tell a story to her friends. I encourage every child to participate and build their confidence in speaking.

We celebrated National World Reading Day by sharing stories. This student is reading a book about managing anger, and we discussed the lessons from the story as a group.

About Mythology, Stories & Role-Play

Instead of just sitting and listening, I have children dress up as characters and use puppets to act out the stories. When a child holds the puppet and tells the story of Shivratri or Janmashtami themselves, they stop just passively listening and start owning the lesson. This hands-on method helps them naturally improve their public speaking, memory retention, and stage confidence without ever feeling pressured.

Hum kahaniyon ke zariye sikhte hain (we learn through stories). For many children, mythology can feel like a distant history lesson, but here in my Chittaranjan Park studio, it becomes an interactive adventure. We don't just talk about the stories; we touch them.

Whether we are crafting a 'Maakhan Plate' for Janmashtami or using masks and hats to become characters from the Ramayana, the goal is to make the lesson tangible.

Why this approach works:

  • Active Participation: By combining role-play with art and craft, even the shyest children find a way to express themselves.
  • Cultural Connection: We use simple Hinglish to explain complex narratives, ensuring every child feels comfortable and connected to the culture, not intimidated by it.
  • Small Batch Focus: With batches limited to 4-6 children, I make sure every child gets a turn to speak, hold the puppet, or lead the story, which is crucial for building self-belief.

It is not just about the myths themselves; it is about using these timeless narratives to practice empathy, understand values, and build the confidence to say, 'I am confident. I am enough.' If you are looking for a way to spark your child's curiosity about our traditions while building their speaking skills, these sessions are the perfect start.
