My Coaching Philosophy: No Shortcuts to Real Cricket

Cricket is an art, not a shortcut. At my academy, we build thinking cricketers, not just power hitters. Yahan shortcut nahi milta.

I often think about the direction grassroots cricket is heading. This is a reality check on our current system and my thoughts on what we need to do to preserve the pure skills of the game.

I started playing cricket with one dream: to play for India. Today, the game is dominated by money and fame. While IPL offers great exposure, I worry about its long-term impact on young cricketers at the grassroots level.

What should I tell a young player? Just hit sixes to get into the IPL? Or learn to leave a swinging ball and build an innings? I believe we are losing the art of orthodox spin, reverse swing, and patient batting. We must not let the pure skills of this beautiful game vanish.

The current environment encourages shortcuts. We are dealing with the future of Indian cricket, and we need to create a system where young players are hungry to represent the country, not just chase a contract. The feeling of the national anthem is irreplaceable.

The real beauty of cricket is that you cannot memorize it. A true player is one who can adapt their skills to different wickets and weather conditions. This ability to adapt quickly during a game is the real skill I emphasize in my coaching.

I have always believed that the team is more important than the individual. That's why our jerseys have the club's name on the back. When you play for the name on the front of the shirt, your individual performance will automatically shine.

Playing well is not enough to reach the next level. You need to be tactically strong. Here, I am discussing the importance of creating a roadmap and a routine to ensure you peak at the right time for a tournament.

Every cricketer goes through bad form. The challenge is not just getting out of it, but also holding on to good form once you find it. Tactical preparation and mental resilience are key to navigating these phases.

Running between the wickets is a science. Here, I am explaining the difference between a push and a tap for a single. Smart running, like what Gambhir and Dhawan used to do, puts pressure on the bowler and creates scoring opportunities.

I am back to conducting regular coaching sessions at the academy. My focus remains on enhancing skills and building thinking cricketers. Admissions are open for players who are ready to commit to the process.

About My Coaching Philosophy: No Shortcuts

You've probably seen flashy highlights on social media, but that’s not what I focus on. My nets are about the grind: learning to leave a swinging ball, understanding why a ball hit the edge, and refining your stance so you have time to play the stroke. If you’re looking for a shortcut to fame, you won’t find it here. If you’re looking to build a career on sound technique and mental resilience, you’re in the right place.

The modern game is obsessed with hitting sixes and getting IPL contracts. While I love the exposure the game gets, I am deeply concerned about what happens to the grassroots. We are losing the patience required to build an innings.

My coaching philosophy is simple: technique first, results later.

The Thinking Cricketer

I don’t just want you to follow instructions. I want you to become a 'thinking cricketer'. This means:

  • Adaptability: You must read the pitch and weather conditions before you even take your guard. A shot that works on a flat deck in Delhi won't work on a seaming wicket in England.
  • Match Simulation: We use video analysis and whiteboard planning, not just to look professional, but to show you exactly where your feet were or why you played a loose shot. You need to see it to believe it.
  • Mental Toughness: Cricket is a game of failures. Whether you are battling a slump in form or trying to hold onto your peak, I teach you how to manage the pressure.

The Reality of Our Training

When you join my sessions at Baliawas, you are signing up for 6 days of hard work. We focus on the 'art'—the stable base, the high backlift, the smooth downswing. We don't copy-paste drills from YouTube. We build a routine that ensures you peak at the right time for your tournaments.

If you want to play for the name on the front of the jersey, come train with us. But be prepared. There are no shortcuts here, just real cricket.

I'm Dhruv, and I've been chasing that dream of wearing the blue jersey since 1996. I never made it to the national stage, but that fire is exactly what I pour into every coaching session at Croire. I don't just teach cricket; I teach the discipline that makes a real player.
