Meet Deepika: The Founder Behind ByTheLeaf
From a vintage typewriter to a blooming green studio, here is the journey of how I turned my love for plants into ByTheLeaf.
Hello, I'm Deepika, the founder of ByTheLeaf. I started this journey out of a deep love for the peace that plants bring. This video shares a little about my story, from handling every task myself to the joy of seeing this green community grow.
Being a founder of a small business means wearing many hats. Some days I'm a salesperson, other days a delivery person, and always the one pushing to build this dream from the ground up. This is the reality of startup life.
Surrounded by green is where I feel most at peace. This business started from a personal need to connect with nature and find a sense of calm. My goal is to share that feeling with you through my workshops and creations.
Here I am in my element, explaining the science and art of terrarium building during a workshop. Teaching and sharing my passion for plants is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.
About Meet the Founder: The Heart Behind ByTheLeaf
People often think running a plant-based business is all about watering leaves, but the reality involves a lot of unglamorous behind-the-scenes work. From lugging heavy terrarium kits to client locations across Gurugram to hand-delivering orders myself, I have built ByTheLeaf one brick and one plant at a time. If you choose to work with me, you are not just hiring a service, you are getting someone who personally handles the details because I care as much about your space as I do about my own.
I started ByTheLeaf with nothing but big dreams and a vintage typewriter. Coming from a middle-class home with no safety net, I had to learn the hard way that every job is a lesson. My background in advertising gave me the eye for aesthetics, but the love for plants gave me the discipline to keep going.
Why I Do What I Do
I believe cozy spaces are not bought, they are made slowly. Whether I am teaching a corporate team how to build an ecosystem or helping a family turn a boring balcony into a chill zone, my goal remains the same: to help you bring nature indoors.
The Reality of Plant Care
If I got a penny for every time a client told me, 'thoda sa pani dala tha' (I just added a bit of water), I would be a millionaire. Most plants do not die from being forgotten, they suffer from being overwatered. I don't sugarcoat this. In my workshops and consultations, I teach you exactly how to handle these common tantrums so your plants actually survive.
My Commitment to You
Running this business is a lonely yet wholesome journey. Some days I am the account manager, other days I am the delivery person. This hands-on approach means when you book a workshop or a landscaping project, you are dealing with the person who actually cares about the outcome. Let's grow together.
