About Practice Matches: Building Match Temperament
You can hit a thousand balls in the nets, but in the middle, the game changes. Here, we force match situations—chasing targets with wickets falling, fielders closing in, and the scoreboard ticking. It is not about looking good; it is about making the right decisions when the pressure is on.
In the nets, the ball is usually coming at a predictable speed. In a match, the situation changes every delivery. That is where I see your true ability. At our Palace Grounds facility in Bengaluru, we do not just play a game. We set specific match scenarios. You need 10 runs off the last over? I want to see if your weight transfer is still balanced or if you are panicking.
For our U-14 to U-19 squads, this is where we simulate league pressure. We focus on shot selection, running between the wickets, and communicating with your partner. If you cannot do it here, you cannot do it in a tournament. We also use these matches to test field placement—why did you bowl there? Why did you set that field? We discuss it immediately after the delivery. This is not for show; it is for learning how to win.
