My Approach to Evidence-Based Birth Support
I believe your body knows how to birth. My role is to be your steady guide—a lighthouse in the storm—ensuring you and your partner feel informed, calm, and ready for your own unique journey.
Celebrating my work during World Doula Week. I believe that gentle and empowering births can better the world, and it is my purpose and joy to support families on this journey.
Labor comes in waves, and our job is to surrender to this natural force. In my classes, we work on changing the internal narrative of pain to drop the fear and accept the process.
Your intuition is your best birth coach. My prenatal meetings are designed to help you listen to your own inner voice, because you are the expert on your body and your baby.
This chart shows the pain relief methods used by my clients. With the right preparation and continuous support, a majority of mothers are able to manage labor without medical pain relief.
I am proud to be an independent birth educator. This means my classes are free of bias, allowing me to offer you unbiased information so you can make choices that feel right for you.
A doula is a guide, not a coach. I am here to help you navigate your choices with good information and a calm presence, but I trust that you already know how to birth.
This work is more than a career; it's a calling. I am deeply committed to serving birthing families with my full heart and attention.
About this collection
I don't believe in bossing you around or teaching you a rigid hospital script. My approach is about helping you filter out the noise and tap into your own instincts. Whether we are in a group session or a one-on-one meeting, we focus on what matters to you: practical pain management techniques, how your partner can actually assist during labor, and processing your specific anxieties. You are the expert on your body; I am just the person who helps you remember that.
Why I work this way
Birth is more than a medical event; it is a profound transformation. Many parents come to me feeling overwhelmed by the conflicting advice online or the fear of the unknown. My method is to provide evidence-based information, but to hold space for the 'mystery' of birth that data cannot explain.
The 'Lighthouse' philosophy
I often refer to myself as a 'Lighthouse in the storm.' When you are in the intensity of labor, things can feel choppy. I am not there to tell you what to do, but to provide a calm, regulated presence. I work alongside you and your partner, ensuring you have the tools to communicate your choices to your care providers.
What this looks like in practice
- Independent Advocacy: I am not employed by any hospital or doctor. My allegiance is entirely to the birthing family, which means the information I share is free from institutional bias.
- Partner-Centered: I don't want your partner to stand in the corner looking lost. I teach specific scripts, counter-pressure techniques, and ways for them to be an active, grounding presence.
- Evidence-Based: My Lamaze classes and workshops are built on physiology and research, not trends. We cover inductions, epidurals, and C-sections, so you can make informed decisions regardless of how the birth unfolds.
I have supported over 55 births in Bangalore and beyond. While every birth is different, the core need remains the same: to feel safe, respected, and capable. Whether you are looking for a short crash course to cover the basics or a 12-hour comprehensive program, my goal is the same—to help you walk away feeling confident about your choices.
Neha Misra
I'm Neha, a birth keeper and educator. I don't see my role as a coach because you already have the wisdom to birth within you; I'm simply here to help you access it. I'm a mother, I'm independent, and I am entirely on your side.
