High-End Commissioned Furniture

When taking on high-end commissions, my process differs significantly from standard furniture production. Whether designing for a private residence or a public institution like the Irish Embassy, the work begins with understanding the space and the intended usage.

For this project, the requirement was a suite of furniture including sideboards, console tables, and a dining table. I chose solid walnut for its depth and structural stability, introducing ash inlay to provide a subtle, linear contrast that defines the edges of each piece.

Construction relies on traditional techniques that prioritize longevity over speed. Every joint is either a mortise and tenon or a dovetail, ensuring the structural integrity matches the aesthetic quality. The drawers, made from birch plywood and lined with felt, are built to operate smoothly for decades.

From the initial sketch to the final application of a two-pack lacquer, every step happens in my workshop.
