Handcrafted Woodworking and Architectural Decor
Beyond fitted cabinetry, I design and build structural elements and fine timber decor that focus on the natural strength and grain of solid wood.
This is a solid wood tread for a centre spine staircase, finished to a high standard. Crafting architectural elements like this requires precision and a deep understanding of the material.
My display at a craft and design fair, showcasing a wider range of my work under the brand name 'beveledge'. The collection includes handcrafted mirrors, clocks, lamps, and small tables, all made with the same attention to detail.
About Additional Woodworking & Decor
When I build a centre spine staircase or a small decor item, I approach them with the same technical focus. It comes down to the way the solid wood interacts with steel or other supports. I prioritize continuous grain patterns and strong joinery so that every element, whether it is a functional part of your home or a display piece, stands the test of time.
The work shown here represents the broader side of my workshop practice. While much of my time is spent on cabinetry, I frequently take on projects that require a different set of engineering and design skills. Designing a staircase is an exercise in both weight management and aesthetics. Using solid oak treads paired with a steel spine provides that clean, modern look without compromising on strength. It has to be precise.
My approach to decor—items like clocks, mirrors, or small tables—comes from the same place. I use the offcuts and premium timber stocks left over from larger projects, ensuring that no material goes to waste. If you see something at a craft fair display, it was likely built to test a new finish or a joinery technique that eventually makes its way into my larger fitted furniture. If you are looking for an architectural element or a specific timber piece that you cannot find in a standard furniture store, that is the kind of problem I enjoy solving.
