Defy Gravity: Master the Human Flag at Chaos Faktory
The Human Flag isn't magic, it's physics and patience. I’ll teach you how to build the core and pulling strength to hold your body parallel to the ground, step by step.
Practicing the Human Flag on the bars. Each session is an opportunity to refine the technique, hold it a little longer, or make it a little cleaner.
Finally getting a flag on the OG pole at the Faktory. It’s always fun to try skills on different apparatuses, as each one presents a unique challenge.
A small flow incorporating the Human Flag. The goal isn't just to hold a static position, but to be able to move into and out of it with grace and control.
This is a dragon flag on a pole, a killer core exercise that directly builds strength for levers. The cheers from my students in the background are the best motivation.
A little bit of magic with the shoulder flag. This variation requires a different kind of strength and body awareness. The look on my student's face says it all.
Working on back lever technique. This move requires significant pulling strength and shoulder mobility. It’s a great complementary skill to the front lever.
Another front lever attempt next to Will. The journey to a perfect front lever is long, but every training session with a master shortens the path.
About Defy Gravity
The Human Flag isn't about brute force—it’s about understanding scapular strength and lat engagement. We don’t just jump on the bar; we break it down into manageable progressions, from the tucked side lever to the full flag. It’s going to be tough, and you will have days where nothing feels right, but that’s where the real progress happens. You just need to show up and be patient.
Building the Foundation
Many people think you need to be a professional gymnast to pull off a Human Flag. That's not the case. At Chaos Faktory in HSR Layout, we focus on the mechanics. If you can't hold a side lever, we don't start with the flag. We start with the basics—hollow body holds, scapular pulls, and conditioning your grip. It’s about building the prerequisite strength so your body doesn't just hang; it locks into place.
My Approach to Progression
I treat every student differently because everyone’s starting point is different. When you come in for training, we look at where your strength gaps are. Are you lacking core stability? Is your shoulder mobility the bottleneck? I've spent years learning from the best calisthenics athletes and hand-balancers, and I bring those techniques here. Whether you are working toward your first muscle-up or trying to fix your form on a back lever, the coaching is manual and hands-on.
Why the Faktory Vibe Matters
Training alone is lonely. Training at the Faktory is a different experience. You’ll be in a group where everyone is trying to unlock their next skill. When you finally hit that position, the energy from the room is something else—that ‘ye aa gaya ye!’ moment is real. We keep the sessions intense but supportive. No egos, no gatekeeping, just people pushing their boundaries.
- Safety First: We use foam pits and crash mats, so you can practice your inversions and lever transitions without the fear of hitting the floor.
- Practical Setup: You have access to the same equipment I use, including Lache bars, rings, and various apparatuses for functional movement.
- Flexible Learning: Whether you want to join our high-intensity group sessions or need 1-on-1 coaching for specific skill acquisition, we have a path for you.
