About Sundowners & Special Gigs
Sundowners demand a completely different approach than a 3 AM club set. I typically start with lower BPM—think deep house or smooth jazz house—to let people settle in and chat, then slowly build the groove as the sun goes down. It is all about reading the room and matching the pace of your specific event, whether that is a luxury brand launch or a rooftop hangout.
My approach to special gigs is about the narrative journey. Unlike my peak-time techno sets where the energy is full throttle from the start, these performances require a balance. I curate a flow that respects the setting. For a brand launch, I lean into sophisticated, melodic house vibes that create a premium atmosphere without overwhelming the conversation. When it is a rooftop sundowner or a pool party, I use the transition from golden hour into night to shift from breezy, laid-back sounds into more driving, rhythmic beats.
Technical Logistics
To make this work, we need to get the technical rider right. I perform using industry-standard Pioneer CDJ setups (CDJ 2000NXS2/3000s and a DJM 900 mixer). A reliable booth monitor is non-negotiable for me—I need to hear exactly what I am playing to control the energy flow perfectly, even in open-air settings.
