About Our Promise: Safety & Responsibility
When we say safety is our priority, we mean it. If the weather in the Western Ghats turns dangerous or the roads to Leh get risky, we don't gamble with your plans. We have called off entire trips before to keep everyone safe, because no photo is worth risking your life. When you travel with us, you are part of a community that looks out for one another.
Why Safety is Non-Negotiable
We started Backpackers United in 2017 because we love the road, but we have seen too many travel groups treat safety as an afterthought. Our approach is different. We carry portable oxygen cylinders on high-altitude treks like Spiti and Ladakh, and our road captains are trained in basic first aid. You will never find us pushing a group to keep walking when the weather is clearly turning against us.
The Reality of Responsible Travel
Travel is about pushing boundaries, but we keep the risks managed. Whether it is our weekend treks from Bangalore or our North East expeditions, we ensure our support team knows the terrain. If we are doing a bike trip, we insist on safety gear. If we are doing a group trek, we pace it so everyone can keep up. We are transparent about the fitness levels required for our trips. We would rather you skip a trek you are not ready for than struggle and get hurt.
Community-Led Adventures
Our biggest safety asset is our community. We build a BPU fam vibe where travelers look out for each other. You are not just a booking ID to us, you are a friend we are responsible for. We keep our group sizes manageable, which allows us to actually manage the group. No massive, impersonal tour buses where you get lost in the crowd. Just real people, real stories, and a team that genuinely cares if you are doing okay.
