About One Year of Wonderful: Cake Smash & Birthday Shoots
Choosing between a controlled studio session and an open-air outdoor shoot is the first big decision you'll make. My studio in Baramunda is perfect for distraction-free, themed setups where your baby can focus on the cake, while local parks or beaches offer that natural, golden-hour light for more candid, movement-heavy shots.
Planning Your Little One's Milestone
A first birthday isn't just about the cake. It's about capturing the personality your baby has developed over their first year.
Studio vs. Outdoor Sessions
- Indoor Studio: My Baramunda studio is set up for comfort and control. It works best if you want specific themes, controlled lighting, or if the weather isn't cooperating. We have plenty of props to make the cake smash look magical without the stress of wind or heat.
- Outdoor Sessions: If your baby loves open spaces, a park or beach session is wonderful. We use the environment as part of the story, letting them crawl on the grass or play in the sand. These sessions usually work best during the early morning or golden hour for that soft, glowy light.
Safety First Whatever we choose, safety is my priority. As a certified newborn and baby photographer, I ensure every prop is stable and every interaction is gentle. You never have to worry about the 'how'—your only job is to be there and soak in the joy.
What to Bring Don't stress over outfits. Neutral, comfortable clothes are usually the best choice so they don't distract from the baby's expressions. If you have a specific heirloom item or a favorite toy, bring it along. It adds that personal touch that turns a standard photo into a memory you’ll actually want to flip through years from now.
