About Siblings & Twins: Double the Joy
Getting siblings to pose together is rarely about perfect cooperation, especially with newborns or toddlers. In my studio, I do not force stiff poses; instead, I build the session around their natural rhythm. If the toddler wants to explore or the twin babies need a snack break, we pause. This approach gives us the space to catch those authentic, quiet moments of connection that you cannot stage.
Working with siblings and twins requires a shift in perspective. The goal is not to get them to sit still for an hour; it is to capture the interplay between them. Whether it is a newborn with an older brother or twin toddlers exploring a set, I use my HSR Layout studio to create a space that feels comfortable rather than clinical.
My Approach
With twins, the challenge often lies in synchronizing their moods. I use props and backdrops that allow them to interact naturally. For older siblings, I often use simple, open-ended play to elicit genuine smiles, rather than asking them to say cheese. I find that the most impactful images come from the moments between the poses.
Planning Your Session
If you are preparing for a sibling or twin session, here are a few practical points to help things run smoothly:
- Wardrobe: I provide outfits for the little ones from my studio collection, but for older siblings, I recommend bringing coordinated (not matching) outfits that they are comfortable in.
- Timing: If the session involves a newborn and an older sibling, we prioritize the newborn’s schedule. We can capture the sibling shots first while the baby is resting or being fed.
- Flexibility: My studio sessions, particularly the Heirloom Hybrid package, are designed with enough time to allow for feeding and outfit changes. We do not rush the process, because the best photos are the ones where the children feel safe and happy.
