Urban Garden Design: Balcony & Terrace Makeovers
You don't need a massive backyard to have a garden. We help you turn cramped balconies and unused terraces into green retreats, whether you prefer low-maintenance artificial turf or lush, living vertical walls.
A formal courtyard garden featuring a central lawn bordered by stone pavers. The space is enclosed by lush vertical gardens and a serene Buddha water feature, creating a private and symmetrical oasis.
Another view of the courtyard, highlighting the impressive vertical garden walls. These "living walls" are a fantastic way to add a lot of greenery without taking up floor space.
For this office project, I installed built-in planters on top of storage cabinets. This brings the benefits of nature into the workplace without sacrificing utility.

I added a Buddha statue among the artificial plants in this office planter, creating a point of interest and a sense of calm in the busy workspace.
The combination of lush artificial greenery and decorative elements like this Buddha statue helps improve the overall ambiance of a corporate space.

This rooftop patio uses artificial grass to create a soft, green surface. It's lined with large planters filled with tropical plants, turning the space into a lush garden.
A small apartment balcony made green and private with artificial turf on the floor, an artificial leaf screen on the wall, and hanging plants.
This before and after showcases a balcony transformation focused on maximizing planting space. I replaced a simple shelf with a full vertical garden wall, turning a plain wall into a living feature bursting with greenery.
About Urban Gardens: Balconies, Terraces & Vertical Walls
Before we install any artificial grass or planters on your terrace, we check the drainage slope and ensure the surface is properly sealed to prevent water logging. It is the step most people skip, but it is how we make sure your garden stays dry and does not damage your floor over time.
Making the Most of Small Spaces
Urban living often means working with tight corners and limited sunlight. Our approach to urban gardens is based on three priorities: weight management, proper drainage, and durability.
Vertical vs. Horizontal
If your balcony floor is limited, we look up. We install vertical garden walls using both real and artificial plants. This adds greenery without taking up precious floor space, ideal for narrow city balconies. For floor surfaces, we use high-density artificial turf (35-45mm pile) that mimics the look of natural grass without the constant need for mowing or heavy soil.
Why Artificial Turf for Terraces?
On rooftops, weight is a real factor. Real grass requires significant soil depth and heavy watering, which can put unnecessary load on your building structure. Artificial grass is lightweight, UV-resistant, and comes with a porous backing that allows rain to drain directly to your floor outlets, preventing stagnation.
What to Consider Before You Start
- Sunlight: We assess the direction your balcony faces. If it gets harsh afternoon sun, we recommend UV-stabilized artificial plants or specific hardy shrubs.
- Maintenance: If you want zero maintenance, we focus on synthetic options. If you want a living garden, we set up drip irrigation or easy-to-access planters.
- Pebble Borders: We often use a 4-6 inch white pebble border around the edges. This isn't just for looks; it acts as a transition zone that hides cut edges and keeps the area looking clean.
Whether you are looking to create a quiet reading nook on your balcony or a full rooftop lawn, we handle the clearing, leveling, and installation so you get a usable space from day one.
