Behind the Scenes of My Mehndi Art
Get an inside look at the technique and precision that goes into every design, from the first sketch to the final shade.
A satisfying close-up of me filling in a floral design. This video shows the precision required for shading leaves and petals, a technique that adds depth and dimension to the final artwork.
This clip shows various stages of a complex bridal design, from creating figures in window arches (jharokhas) to filling in intricate floral bands. It demonstrates the multi-layered process of creating story-based mehndi.
About The Art in Progress
When I am applying a complex design, I start with the main structural elements—like portrait outlines or temple arches—before moving to the fine, intricate shading. This is not just about drawing lines; it is about controlling the henna flow so the details remain sharp and do not bleed together. In these videos, you can see how I manage the cone to create those distinct layers that define a high-quality bridal piece.
Every mehndi artist has a unique way of working, and my process is built around clarity and longevity.
The Layering Technique
My work often involves high-detail projects like portrait bridal mehndi or architectural motifs like the Ram Mandir. To get this right, I do not rush the filling. I build the design in stages: first, I define the boundaries and main figures, then I work on the filler patterns like jharokhas or floral bands. This layering helps me keep the design proportionate, especially when I am incorporating specific elements like a couple’s initials or a wedding date.
Why Process Matters
The videos here show exactly how I apply henna to the hand. You might notice I am quite careful about the pressure on the cone. Consistent pressure is the secret to a dark, deep stain. If the henna is applied too thick in some areas and too thin in others, the colour will come out patchy. By keeping the application even, I ensure the entire design darkens uniformly over time.
Customization During Application
Many clients ask if they can change parts of a design while I am working. Because I map out the main figures first, we usually have a moment to adjust the flow before I fill in the smaller patterns. This is why I prefer to sit with you, sketch the concept, and make sure it feels like your story before I start the final application. Whether it is a portrait or a simple mandala, my goal is to give you a design that is clean, precise, and made with heart.
