Nothing makes me prouder than seeing my students blossom. This video features a talented young student sharing her experience at my studio and showcasing her first portrait sketch. My goal is to nurture passion and build confidence in the next generation of artists.

I have been painting and sculpting for 35 years, but I learn just as much from my students as they learn from me. Teaching is how I pass on the patience and techniques that nature and my own practice have taught me. My studio is a space for us to slow down and create together.

This is the underpainting stage, or the 'grisaille,' for a portrait. I always start with a monochrome layer to establish the light and shadow before adding any color. It's a foundational technique for creating depth.

I created this charcoal portrait to capture the pure happiness in a child's expression. In my classes, I teach how to use light and shadow with charcoal to create this kind of depth and emotion, turning a simple sketch into a powerful piece of art.
This is a watercolor portrait I painted to explore how to represent age and character. We work on techniques like layering colors and controlling water to capture the delicate details of skin texture and expression, creating what I call a 'wrinkly beauty'.
