My Mural Painting Process: From Site Visit to Final Stroke
Behind every painted wall is a journey of planning, design, and a little magic. Here is how I turn a blank space into a story.
A photo from a site visit. This is the first and most crucial step, where I assess the wall, understand the lighting, and discuss the client's vision for the space.
A time-lapse of me painting a blue half-mandala. This shows the steady hand and focus required, even when working on a chair to reach higher spots.
Me posing with a completed floral mandala mural. I always take a photo with my work to claim ownership and show the scale of the final piece.
Starting a dream project: a massive 5-foot circular canvas. This video shows the preparation and excitement before the first stroke of paint.
This was my last project in Bangalore before relocating to Ahmedabad. It involved painting 10 murals for a PG, including this colorful rainbow quote.
A time-lapse of a rainbow quote mural, "It's Okay to Not Be Okay." This shows how I plan and execute multi-mural projects efficiently by grouping similar designs.
A simple and easy mural idea for beginners to try. This video breaks down the process of creating a cute motivational note mural.
Taking a moment during a site visit to absorb the view and atmosphere. Understanding the environment is key to creating art that feels right for the space.
A realistic look at a site visit. It often involves navigating construction materials and visualizing art on unfinished walls.
Assessing a primed wall in an arched niche during a site visit. This is where I check the surface for any issues and finalize the placement of the design.
About The Artistic Process: From Idea to Wall
Before the first drop of paint hits your wall, I spend time getting to know your space. I check for wall dampness, assess natural lighting, and talk to you about the specific energy you want in that corner. It is not just about picking a design; it is about making sure the art survives the Ahmedabad weather and truly fits your life.
The Journey to a Painted Wall
Every project starts with a conversation. I want to know who is using the space and what story we are trying to tell.
1. Site Analysis
This is where the magic begins. I visit your location to check wall conditions, texture, and light. If I see dampness or poor plaster, we fix that before we start. This ensures the mural lasts.
2. Design & Mockups
I don't believe in generic art. I create custom digital layouts, often overlaying them on photos of your actual wall, so you can see exactly how a Mandala, botanical pattern, or abstract shape will fit.
3. Execution
I use a mix of freehand painting and grid methods to ensure accuracy. For simple quotes or geometric shapes, we focus on clean lines. For complex Mandalas or traditional Pichwai, I use multi-layering techniques to build depth.
4. Preservation
Your wall needs to last. Once the painting is done, I apply an artist-grade sealant to protect against dust, UV light, and the daily wear and tear of life.
Whether it is a living room feature wall or a commercial office mural, my goal is to make sure the final result feels like it has always belonged there.
The Artist
I am a doctor by day and an artist at heart. I believe the messy, imperfect process of creating is just as beautiful as the final mural, and I love helping people turn their empty walls into stories that feel like home.
