How to Care for Your Handmade Jewellery
Keep your handmade jewellery looking as beautiful as the day you got it. A few simple habits will keep your pieces shining for years. ✨
Proper storage is key. Always store your jewellery in a closed bag or box after wiping it gently to protect it from dust and moisture.
To prevent tarnish and damage to the finish, it's important to keep your fashion jewellery away from moisture, water, and sweat.
Always allow your perfumes or lotions to dry completely before wearing your jewellery. The chemicals in these products can cause discolouration and damage.
To avoid accidental breakage or damage, remember to remove your jewellery, especially delicate earrings and necklaces, before going to sleep.
About this collection
The biggest enemy of your handmade jewellery is moisture. Whether it is sweat from a long day out or the humidity in the air, moisture is what dulls the finish and causes tarnish on silver-lookalike items. Always wipe your pieces with a soft, dry cloth after every use and let them sit for a few minutes before putting them away in a sealed box. This one simple habit keeps the metal polish and silk thread vibrant for much longer.
Storage Basics
Always store your jewellery in a closed bag or box. Since I use delicate materials like embroidery silk thread and glass beads, keeping them away from dust and direct sunlight is essential. If you have bangle sets, use the rods provided to keep them in shape.
Handling Chemicals
Perfumes, lotions, and hairsprays are full of chemicals that can discolour oxidised silver or degrade the glue on Kundan stones. Always apply these products, let them dry completely, and only then put on your jewellery.
Dealing with Tarnish
If your oxidised silver jewellery loses its shine, do not use harsh chemical cleaners. A gentle wipe with a dry, soft cotton cloth is usually enough. For silk thread items, avoid water entirely. If a thread gets snagged or a small bead comes loose, feel free to send me a message so we can look at a repair.
Sleep Habits
It is tempting to leave your earrings on after a long event, but please take them off before sleeping. This prevents accidental breakage of the delicate hooks or bending of the earring wires. Treating your jewellery with the same care as your clothes will help these pieces last through many festival seasons and wedding days.
