Sankranti is all about new beginnings, and wearing halwyache dagine (sugar bead jewellery) is a cherished Maharashtrian tradition. It is especially significant for newlywed brides celebrating their Pahili Sankrant (first Sankranti), but it has become a lovely way to dress up little ones for their bor nhan as well.

Because these are made from sugar beads, they can be delicate. I use a secure, hand-threaded technique (sui-dhaaga) rather than adhesives. This keeps the pieces durable enough for your photoshoots and puja rituals, and much more comfortable against the skin than standard costume jewellery.
