About this collection
When we shoot in monochrome, I do not just turn down the color saturation. We build the shot differently, often using heavy rim lighting and high-contrast setups to carve out your facial features and bone structure. This is a tactical choice for actors and models. Casting directors often prefer these images because they show your true emotional range and ability to hold a frame without the distraction of wardrobe colors or busy backgrounds.
I firmly believe that some stories are best told in black and white. As they say, 'Aankhein thi to sab bayan kar diya, lafz hote to mukar jate' (The eyes revealed everything, words would have denied it). In my Andheri West studio, I focus on capturing that exact sentiment.
Why monochrome matters for your portfolio
If your current portfolio is full of bright, saturated colors, you are missing a dimension. Monochrome images force the viewer to look at your eyes, your posture, and the specific texture of your skin. This is essential for a professional actor headshot or a high-end fashion portfolio. It tells casting directors and agents that you are confident in your craft and do not need to hide behind a flashy dress or complex background.
The process at my studio
For these sessions, we work with specialized lighting setups. We move away from flat, even light and bring in sharp, dramatic angles. Whether we are shooting a clean, classic headshot or an edgy, cinematic pose, the goal is always the same: to strip away the noise.
- Technical Approach: I use specific modifiers, like optical snoots, to control the light fall-off, ensuring your silhouette is defined against the darkness.
- Collaboration: We will review your shots on the tethered screen in real-time. This helps us adjust the angle of your chin or the tilt of your head to get that exact 'bold elegance' I look for.
- Preparation: Monochrome captures everything. If you are planning a session, focus on your skincare and come ready to explore your range of expressions. I provide the lighting and the direction; you bring the energy.

I'm Prabhakar. I love the rawness of monochrome because it is where I see the real person, not just the fashion. My studio in Andheri is where we strip back the noise, use dramatic lighting, and create the kind of portraits that stop casting directors in their tracks.
