About Pan-Asian & Oriental Cuisine

I bring a complete mobile studio to your kitchen, managing both the food styling and the photography to ensure efficiency. My process includes precise plating adjustments, lighting control for complex textures like Peking Duck, and real-time tethered review, so we capture the perfect shot before the dish loses its visual integrity.

Capturing the Nuance of Oriental Cuisine

Pan-Asian dishes present distinct photographic challenges. Whether it is the delicate translucency of dim sum wrappers, the specific sheen on roasted meats, or the vibrant color composition of a poke bowl, the photography must communicate authenticity. My technical approach focuses on these specific details.

My Technical Approach

  • Lighting Control: I utilize commercial lighting setups—ranging from soft 120cm Octaboxes for fine-dining plating to high-contrast light for modern bistro styles—to highlight food textures without washing out color.
  • Integrated Food Styling: The visual success of an Oriental shot often relies on geometry and precision. I manage plating adjustments, use tweezers for micro-greens, maintain steam effects, and ensure the structural integrity of dishes like hot pots and layered sushi rolls.
  • Gear & Optics: I shoot with the Canon EOS R5 and 100mm macro lenses. This combination allows me to capture the micro-textures of ingredients, a requirement for high-resolution print menus and advertising campaigns.

Workflow for Restaurants

I operate on-location, whether at a hotel kitchen or a fast-paced cafe. My workflow is designed to minimize disruption:

  1. Preparation: We analyze the brand aesthetic to align the mood (e.g., Dark & Moody vs. High-Key).
  2. Construction: I build dishes to withstand studio lights, using techniques like oil brushing and micro-garnish placement to simulate fresh, appetizing results.
  3. Review: Tethered shooting allows your team to view high-resolution images in real-time on my laptop. We finalize the look on-site, ensuring we meet your requirements for delivery apps, print, or social media.
