Gourmet & Modern Plates Photography
High-quality menu and macro photography that captures the detail and art in your plating.
This is an example of modern, artistic food plating. The vibrant green of the spinach dumplings pops against the clean white bowl, while the careful placement of garnishes highlights the dish's elegance for a fine-dining menu.
A set of delicate edamame dumplings styled with their core ingredient. The clean, bright lighting and minimalist plating on a textured grey plate make this image feel fresh, healthy, and upscale.
The deep magenta of these beetroot dumplings is the star of this shot. I used edible flowers and fresh greens to complement the colour, creating a visually stunning image for a contemporary Asian restaurant.
These mini naan pizzas were shot to look like the perfect shareable appetizer. The composition on the wooden board with fresh ingredients scattered around gives a relaxed, social vibe, ideal for a cafe or bar menu.
About Gourmet & Modern Plates
The difference between a snapshot and a menu-ready image is often the styling. For these modern plates, I work closely with professional food stylists to ensure every garnish and sauce placement is intentional before I touch the camera. It is the only way to get those vibrant, clean images where textures like delicate dumpling skins or fresh greens pop exactly as they should under my studio lighting.
How I Shoot Modern Plates
Modern plating requires a different approach than traditional rustic food photography. When I shoot contemporary cuisine, my focus is on clean lines, bright or soft lighting, and sharp details.
I rely on my 100mm macro lens for these sessions to capture the tiny, significant details that make a dish appealing—the condensation on a fresh ingredient, the texture of a steamed dim sum, or the vibrant color of a garnish. This is not just about taking a photo of food; it is about highlighting the precision of the kitchen.
The Collaborative Process
I view food photography as a team effort. My process for this style involves:
- Planning: We first discuss your menu and your brand aesthetic. Are we going for a bright, airy look or a high-contrast modern feel?
- Styling: I usually collaborate with a food stylist for these shoots. They handle the plate adjustments, flower placement, and garnish levels so I can focus on lighting and composition.
- Technical Execution: For modern plates, I often use a 2-point softbox setup. This eliminates harsh shadows and keeps the focus entirely on the dish. I shoot against minimalist backgrounds—usually white, grey, or neutral wood textures—to ensure the food remains the hero of the image.
Getting Your Images Ready
My goal is to deliver images that are ready to use immediately. Whether you need content for Zomato, Swiggy, your website, or your social media channels, I provide high-resolution, color-corrected JPEGs. I understand the requirements of food aggregators, so I ensure the images are evenly lit and framed to comply with their standard guidelines. If you are a restaurant or cafe in Delhi NCR looking to update your menu visuals with a modern, fresh look, let’s talk about your specific plating style.
