About Sparkle & Shine: Glitter, Chrome & Cat-Eye
If you love high-shine, we need to talk about the difference between reflective and standard glitter. Reflective glitter catches light aggressively when you take a photo with flash, giving you that 'viral' look, while standard chrome powders are better for that smooth, liquid metal finish. I usually ask which event you are attending to help you decide—if it is an evening party, we go with the flash; if it is a casual brunch, a soft cat-eye with magnetic movement looks more elegant.
How I create the sparkle
My Parel studio is fully stocked with reflective glitters, magnetic cat-eye gels, and chrome powders. The 'sparkle' category is vast, and clients often get overwhelmed. Here is how we usually approach your set:
- Magnetic Cat-Eye: This is not just a color; it is physics. I use a magnet to pull the metallic particles in the polish to create that floating, 3D velvet effect. We can shift the movement to the side or center depending on your finger shape.
- Reflective Glitter: This is the 'flash' look. In normal daylight, it looks like standard glitter, but the moment a camera flash hits it, the pigment reflects the light intensely. It is a favorite for weddings and party season.
- Chrome & Glazed Finishes: If you are after that clean, 'glazed donut' look, I use fine chrome powders buffed over a nude or colored base. It gives a liquid-metal finish that is very popular for a sophisticated aesthetic.
Durability and Care
Whether you choose a full bling set or subtle accents, my priority is the base structure. I always start with a dry Russian-style manicure to clear the cuticles properly—this ensures the polish sits flush against the nail bed and does not lift as your nails grow out. With a proper rubber base or builder gel overlay underneath, these sets easily last 3 to 4 weeks.
A quick heads-up: If you are opting for large 3D charms or crystals with your glitter, be mindful when using hair products or heavy lotions, as they can cloud the stones over time. I will show you how to maintain the shine before you leave the studio.
