My Journey as a Plant Parent
For me, a plant is not just decoration. It is a little life I nurture for my Kannaya. This is my journey from starting with a few seeds on my terrace to finding peace in the soil.
This was on my 20th birthday. I feel my journey has been one of growth, much like my plants. With Krishna's grace, I hope to continue exploring, creating, and sharing my love for gardening with all of you.
Another picture from my 20th birthday, holding a small plant. Every challenge in life has been a teacher, and every fall has shaped my rise, just like a plant reaching for the sun.
I was blessed to be a part of the Mahashivratri celebrations at the Isha Foundation. Being in such a divine atmosphere, surrounded by nature and devotion, was an unforgettable experience. Har Har Mahadev.
The Parijat flower has a beautiful story connecting it to Lord Krishna. The ISKCON Ananthapur temple has many of these trees, and their flowers are offered daily to Radha Parthasarathi. It's a blessing to witness this devotion.
This was me on my 19th birthday, a proud plant parent with my new rose plants. I am so happy to have this lovely bond with all of you through our shared love for plants.
I get very excited when I go plant shopping for my garden. Here are some of the new plants I purchased, including many new shades of roses and hibiscus. My budget was crossed, but my heart was full.
Inner peace is the foundation of all happiness. For me, that peace comes from moments like this, harvesting jasmine flowers and offering them to my little Krishna deity amidst my plants.
My weekends are almost always spent with my plants. Whether it's shopping for new pots or visiting a nursery, being around this green energy is how I recharge.
A birthday harvest with my little nephew. Teaching the next generation to love and care for nature is one of the most important things we can do.
Many people ask what I do with the flowers after pooja. I collect them and turn them into fragrant dhoop or incense. It's a way of completing the cycle, from nature back to nature.
About My Journey as a Plant Parent
People often see the blooming flowers on my terrace and think it is easy. But there have been many days where I have lost entire batches of saplings to pests or poor soil. Learning to accept these failures was the hardest part of becoming a plant parent. I do not teach from a textbook; I teach from the mistakes I made, so you do not have to struggle in the same way.
Gardening for me is a form of seva (devotional service). When I started in Anantapur, I had nothing but a handful of pots and a dream to grow flowers for my deity. I did not have a garden; I had a concrete slab that got too hot in the summer and flooded in the monsoon. It took me years to learn that you do not need acres of land to find the joy of harvesting. You just need to understand the rhythm of your own space.
My approach is entirely organic because I believe that what we offer to the divine should be pure. I have experimented with everything—from kitchen waste composting to making my own natural pest repellents using neem oil and chili sprays. Whether you are struggling to keep a Tulsi plant alive or want to grow your own flowers for Ganesh Chaturthi, I am here to help you get started.
I treat every plant like a guest in my home. If you are feeling overwhelmed by the idea of starting a garden, remember that I started with just one rose plant. We can take it slow, one pot at a time. My goal is to help you create a little sanctuary where you can feel that same peace I find when I am watering my plants. If you love green, let’s chat and bring some life to your balcony.
