Building on a slope is more than just stacking volumes. We turn challenging contours into panoramic views using dramatic cantilevers and site-sensitive engineering.

A render of an upcoming holiday retreat in Kasauli, designed to cascade down a steep hill. The structure uses stilts and cantilevered terraces to minimize its impact on the ground while providing every room with an unobstructed mountain view.

An upward-looking shot of the cantilevered structure, emphasizing its dramatic projection out from the hillside. This perspective showcases the ambitious structural design and the creation of floating architectural forms.

From within the under-construction hillside home, a raw concrete frame perfectly captures the breathtaking panorama of the mountains. This demonstrates how the design prioritizes the view from the very beginning.

The forest of support props inside the structure frames a stunning view of the valley, illustrating the open-plan design. Even in its raw state, the connection between the interior space and the vast landscape is clear.

About this collection

A cantilevered house is not just about the architectural wow factor. It is a precise balancing act of structural engineering and soil stability. When we work on sloping sites, like our Kasauli project, we focus on minimizing land excavation and using the existing terrain to create floating living spaces that feel deeply connected to the valley below.

Architecture on Uneven Ground

Designing a home on a hill requires a different mindset than building on a flat city plot. Instead of fighting the slope, we let the contours dictate the layout. Our process starts with a thorough site context analysis, where we study the sun path and wind direction to ensure your home stays comfortable throughout the seasons, even at higher altitudes.

The Cantilever Strategy

We use cantilevers and stilts to lift the structure off the ground. This serves two purposes. First, it preserves the natural slope and reduces the need for extensive cutting and filling of the land, which keeps the soil stable and the environment intact. Second, it allows us to push living spaces out towards the view, giving you that feeling of being perched among the treetops.

From Structural Grid to View

Building this way demands intense structural coordination. We work closely with engineers to design complex column and beam grids that can support these floating volumes. Whether it is a luxury villa or a holiday home, our civil working drawings cover everything from masonry layouts to the precise placement of glass panels that frame the mountains. If you have a sloped plot in the hills or the outskirts of the city, we would love to help you find the right orientation and design to make the most of your site.
