About Kalaa Sangama 2023: A Look Back
Unlike typical student recitals using pre-recorded tracks, our students perform Kalaa Sangama numbers with a full live band. This real-world exposure teaches them microphone technique, how to manage stage feedback, and the essential skill of playing in sync with other instrumentalists.
Kalaa Sangama is the highlight of our academic calendar. It is where the classroom practice meets the reality of the stage. Whether it is a 6-year-old performing Teen Taal on the tabla or teens belting out an Imagine Dragons cover with acoustic guitars, the goal is the same: building confidence through performance.
Our approach is grounded in the belief that music is a universal language. In our Basavanagudi and Malleshwaram studios, we offer a curriculum that spans Carnatic and Hindustani classical vocal and instrumental training, alongside Western pop, rock, and Bollywood music. We teach students the discipline of classical technique while encouraging the creative freedom of contemporary performance.
Students who participate in our programs don't just learn notes; they learn how to listen to their bandmates, maintain rhythm under pressure, and express themselves. Our gurus—Vidwans and instructors—are present at every step, from selecting the repertoire to ensuring the student is comfortable on stage. We believe that by removing the safety net of a karaoke track, we force the student to truly own their sound, leading to faster progress and a deeper connection to the music.
