I create spaces that blend the warmth of traditional Indian materials with clean, modern living. From exposed brick walls to cooling natural stone flooring, I focus on crafting homes that feel grounded, open, and uniquely yours.

A traditional wooden swing (jhula) is the heart of this living space, set against a backdrop of a double-height jali screen and Jaisalmer marble inlay flooring. This is the essence of my Indian Modern design philosophy.

Another view of the living room in the Banashankari residence, where the wooden swing invites relaxation. The space is a dialogue between traditional craft and contemporary openness, bathed in natural light.

This render shows the view from the courtyard into the living space of the South Bangalore duplex. The design uses Kota stone flooring and a central tree to create a seamless connection between the interior and a natural, earthy feel.

About this collection

Many clients worry that natural stone or exposed brick might make a room feel dark or enclosed. In my projects, I counter this by meticulously planning natural light entry points, such as central courtyards or skylights, to ensure every corner remains bright and airy, even in compact city plots.

At Design Matters, my 'Indian Modern' design philosophy is about finding equilibrium. When I incorporate heavy textures like exposed brick or intricate motifs like Athangudi tiles, I pair them with sleek, contemporary lines to prevent the space from feeling dated or cluttered.

In Bengaluru, we often work with constrained plot sizes. My design strategy prioritizes 'negative space'—utilizing double-height volumes, strategic skylights, and internal courtyards to draw air and sunlight into the heart of the home. This approach makes even a 1200 sq ft footprint feel significantly more expansive and connected to the outdoors.

For flooring, I lean towards natural stones like Kota or Jaisalmer. These are not only culturally resonant but also durable and temperature-regulating in our local climate. I do not just specify these for their appearance; I design the exact laying patterns and brass or marble inlay details to ensure the flooring acts as a unifying element across your living and dining areas.

Every project follows a rigorous, transparent workflow. We begin with a site climate analysis and 3D visualization, progress through detailed GFC (Good for Construction) drawings, and conclude with active site supervision. I do not simply hand over a concept; I ensure that the brick bonding patterns, jali screens, and custom joinery are executed exactly as we envisioned. If you appreciate honest materials and want a home that feels warm, breathable, and distinctly Indian, let's discuss how we can build your space.
