Sacred Pooja Room Murals and Traditional Decor
Creating a divine space at home begins with intention. I hand-paint traditional Kerala murals and intricate deity art to bring peace and blessings into your pooja room.
A closer look at the Ganesha mural I created for a pooja room. The warm colors and divine form of Ganesha are meant to create a peaceful and auspicious environment for prayer.
This video shows a pooja ceremony being performed in a space where I painted the pillars with murals of Lord Murugan and other deities. It is an honor to see my art become part of sacred rituals.
Here I am, working on a pooja room wall, painting a mural of Unnikannan and Ganesha. Painting directly on the wall integrates the art into the architecture of the home itself.
Happy Vinayaka Chaturthi. Here is a happy client with a Ganesha mural I painted for her home, perfectly placed next to a traditional swing.
About Sacred Pooja Spaces
When painting directly onto pooja room walls or wooden doors, I focus on the 'dot shading' technique to give figures depth and life. Unlike mass-produced decals, this layer of detail ensures that your pooja room isn't just decorated, but transformed into a space that feels personal and spiritually resonant.
Bringing Spirituality Home
I believe that a pooja room is the heartbeat of a home. When you commission a mural, you aren't just buying paint on a wall; you are creating a focal point for your daily prayers and moments of quiet reflection. My approach blends the strict discipline of the Panchavarna palette with the warmth of traditional storytelling.
My Process for Sacred Spaces
Whether it is a mural on a wall or an intricate design on a wooden door, my process is entirely manual.
- Surface Preparation: For walls, I ensure the plaster is cured and properly primed before the first sketch. If we are working on wooden doors, I focus on sanding and grain sealing to ensure the paint adheres perfectly.
- Dot Shading: This is the signature of Kerala mural art. I use hundreds of tiny dots to build skin tones and facial expressions, creating a 3D illusion without using 3D materials. It takes time, but it is the only way to get that authentic look.
- Protection: Every mural is finished with a double coat of clear synthetic varnish. This protects the art from the oil, smoke, and moisture typically found in a pooja room, ensuring the colors stay vibrant for years.
Customization and Belief
Your pooja room is a reflection of your personal faith. I work with you to choose the deities and narratives that matter most to you, from a serene Unnikannan to an elaborate Geethopadesham. While I specialize in traditional Hindu themes, I also create art for diverse faiths, including murals of Jesus or Buddha, ensuring the style remains respectful and serene. If you have a specific deity or concept in mind, reach out and we can sketch it out together.
