I don't just rent out bikes, I ride them hard on Mumbai's streets. Here is my unfiltered take on the Triban RC 100 after nine months of daily rental use.

This is the Btwin Triban RC 100, a popular entry level road bike in my rental fleet. In this series, I give you my honest user review based on my experience renting it out to clients in Mumbai.

Here's my honest breakdown of the Btwin Triban RC 100 after nine months of renting it out. This infographic summarizes the pros, like its quality alloy frame, and the cons, such as the seat post screw needing occasional tightening.

A full profile view of the Btwin Triban RC 100. Its comfort oriented frame geometry provides a more upright riding position, which is great for those new to road bikes or for longer, more relaxed rides.

A closer look at the 6061 T6 aluminium alloy frame of the Triban RC 100. This material makes the bike lightweight yet sturdy, a key feature for an enjoyable ride.

This bike features a Microshift 7 speed shifter on the handlebar. It provides a good feel and reliable shifting, working well with the Shimano rear derailleur for a smooth experience.

The drivetrain is equipped with a Shimano Tourney rear derailleur. This component is known for its reliability on entry level bikes, ensuring consistent gear changes during your ride.

About this collection

We have put the Btwin Triban RC 100 through nine months of daily rental cycles across Mumbai. While the 6061 T6 aluminium frame offers a solid, upright ride, our experience shows you need to watch the seat post screw and left crank arm. These parts can loosen over time, so if you rent this or own one, keep an Allen key handy for quick adjustments during your ride.

Performance Breakdown

The Triban RC 100 sits at a price point that makes road cycling accessible. The geometry is comfort-oriented with a higher steering socket and shorter top tube, which helps beginners avoid the aggressive slouch of high-end racers.

The Good:

  • Frame Quality: The 6061 T6 aluminium alloy is light and surprisingly sturdy for the price.
  • Braking: The cartridge brake pads provide consistent stopping power, essential for navigating traffic in areas like Bandra or Marine Drive.
  • Shifting: The Microshift 7-speed shifter paired with the Shimano Tourney rear derailleur is a solid, reliable combo for city commutes.

The Reality Check:

  • Handlebar: At 420mm, the aluminium bar is thin. It functions well, but it lacks the grip and thickness that experienced riders often prefer.
  • Maintenance: As noted, keep an eye on the crank arm and seat post bolts. We service these regularly at our Worli workshop, but for your own safety, perform a quick check before hitting the road.

Is this bike for you?

If you are looking for your first road bike or need a reliable machine for weekend fitness, this is a strong contender. It handles city potholes reasonably well for a road bike, but do not expect it to perform like a high-end carbon racer. It is a workhorse, not a thoroughbred. If you want to test it out before committing to a purchase, renting it for a week is the smartest way to know if the geometry works for your body type.
