Timeless Black and White Portraits
I strip away the color to reveal the raw emotion, delicate textures, and genuine love in every frame. These portraits focus entirely on the bond between you and your baby, creating images that feel permanent and deeply personal.

About this collection
A great black and white portrait is not just about removing color. It is about how I manipulate lighting to accentuate textures, like the velvet softness of a newborn's skin or the grip of tiny fingers. We work specifically with light and shadow to ensure the focus stays entirely on the connection between you and your child, rather than the background.
In a world of bright, busy colors, a black and white portrait feels permanent. It forces the eye to ignore distractions and look directly at the subject. When I photograph your newborn, I am looking for the curve of their nose, the way they curl their tiny fingers, and the peaceful expression they have when they sleep.
Without the distraction of color, we can appreciate the raw detail of those early weeks. A portrait of a father kissing his baby’s forehead or a mother cradling her child becomes more about the feeling and less about the outfit or the wall color. These photos do not age. They look just as relevant on your mantle twenty years from now as they do today.
If you are planning a session, let me know if you want to lean into this style. We can incorporate it into any of my standard newborn or family packages, either in my BTM 2nd Stage studio or during an in-home visit. We do not need extra props or heavy themes for these shots; we just need your family and the natural light.
Vandana Rout
I am Vandana. I see every photo as a story, and sometimes, the best way to tell that story is to strip away the color. I focus on raw, unfiltered love between you and your little one, capturing the small details that pass by way too fast.
