Finding meditation in the mundane. A collection exploring the play of light, texture, and form in everyday objects.

A watercolor demonstration from my one-month course. This still life balances the textures of fish, cherries, porcelain, and paper, teaching students how to render different surfaces.

This 2019 watercolor of bicycles resting against a wall is a story told in rust and peeling paint. It’s a memory of a simple, everyday scene that holds a certain timeless beauty.

A watercolor painting of pink roses from an online flower painting workshop. The focus was on creating soft, delicate petals and a lush, out-of-focus background.

A still life demonstration in watercolor, focusing on light, textures, and form. Capturing the shine on the spoon and the soft folds of the fabric are key elements in bringing realism to the piece.

This still life of apples in a bowl is from my ongoing watercolor course. The strong overhead light creates dramatic shadows, which helps to define the form of the apples and the cloth.

A rustic still life from my watercolor course, featuring fish, garlic, and chilies on a wooden surface. This piece is an exercise in capturing a variety of textures and a sense of raw, natural beauty.

A time-lapse video of a cat portrait, demonstrating the wet-on-wet watercolor technique. This method is perfect for creating soft, expressive fur while keeping the eyes sharp and full of life.

The final painting of the pink roses. The soft, blended colors of the petals contrast with the rich, dark green background, making the flowers the clear focal point.

The still life with fish and cherries, shown on my easel. This angle gives a better sense of the painting's composition and the colors on my palette.

A video showing the process of the still life with fish and cherries. It highlights the careful layering of washes to create the different textures in the scene.

About Still Life & Nature Studies

When I paint a simple bowl of apples or a rusty bicycle, I am not just capturing an image. I am studying how light kisses a surface and how shadows define a shape. In my live workshops, I teach you to look past the object itself and see the texture of the cloth, the glaze of the pottery, and the stories hidden in the details. You learn to paint the feeling, not just the form.

For me, Still Life is where art becomes a practice of mindfulness. Rangon se kahaniyan rachta hoon (I craft stories with colors), and often, the most compelling stories are found in the objects we overlook. Whether it is the shimmer of fresh fish, the soft blush of cherries, or the weathered texture of an old cycle against a peeling wall, every element demands a specific technique to truly bring it to life.

In these studies, I focus on the technical side of realism, which is the foundation of my teaching. We explore how to manage moisture on 300 GSM cotton paper to achieve those translucent skin tones and deep, moody backgrounds. We practice glazing, layering watercolors to build depth, and understanding how to manipulate light to give fruits and metal objects a three-dimensional presence.

These pieces are not just displays of skill. They are lessons. Many of the works you see here started as demonstrations in my online workshops. I believe that anyone can create beauty if they learn to observe patiently. In my live sessions, we move beyond just watching. I guide you through the process, from the first graphite sketch to the final wash, ensuring you understand the 'why' behind every brushstroke. If you are looking to deepen your own practice and learn how to see the world with an artist's eye, I invite you to join our next batch.
