About My Music: Originals & Bootlegs
These aren't just tracks for a set; they are a deep dive into my studio process. When I create a bootleg like 'STAMP!' or rework a classic, I'm analyzing the original energy and rebuilding it for a modern techno floor. It’s about taking something familiar and giving it that specific, driving sound I'm known for.
My studio work is an extension of my live performances. When I am not behind the decks, I am usually in front of a monitor, obsessing over gain staging, frequency balance, and texture. Creating a bootleg is a specific challenge. It requires respecting the DNA of the original track while stripping away everything that doesn't serve a high-energy, underground environment.
Take my rework of 'Meet Her At The Love Parade' or the collaborative 'STAMP!' bootleg with Premik Jolly. These tracks aren't designed for background listening. They are engineered to test the low-end response of a proper PA system. I use a hybrid workflow, often running digital files through hardware samplers like the Pioneer Toraiz SP-16 or Roland gear to get that grit and warmth you cannot fake with software alone.
For those interested in how these are made, I treat my production like a technical discipline. I am not looking for mass appeal. I am looking for a specific resonance. If you listen to 'Turn On The Light', you will hear exactly what I mean—layers built in real time, intended to create movement on the dance floor. This is also how I approach mastering for other artists. It is all about headroom, clarity, and impact. If you want to dive deeper into the technical side, I discuss these workflows and gear choices in my production workshops across the country.
