About B2B Sessions: All Night Long
A B2B set requires a shared understanding of sound engineering and track selection. When I play with another artist, we spend time establishing a rhythm and gain staging before the first beat drops. This ensures the output remains consistent, so the crowd experiences a seamless sonic transition rather than a jarring jump between our different mixing styles.
The B2B Dynamic
Many people think a back-to-back session is just two DJs trading tracks. In reality, it is a test of musical intuition and technical preparation. I treat these sessions like a live production. We aren't just matching BPMs; we are building a narrative arc together that neither of us could sustain alone.
Technical Execution
To make this work, the hardware configuration is critical. I insist on a setup that allows for smooth handovers. Whether we are on a standard Pioneer CDJ 3000 setup or incorporating hybrid hardware like samplers and drum machines, the gain staging must be precise. If the levels are mismatched, the intensity of the floor drops, and that defeats the purpose of the set.
